Most of us know that red car paint CAN fade. Has your red mini over time faded, or do you know of certain red colours that don't fade...I've been told Tartan Red paint don't fade quickly.

Clear coated red is much less likely to fade than a non-clear coated red.

Sorry what do you mean by "Clear coated"?

So normal red paint, well most red paint, is applied over a primer. Some red paint, for example the Capsium Red on the Trophy 182 is clear coated, ie; it has a layer of clear paint over it. The clear stops UV damage therefor is less likely to fade.

Thanks Noah, do you know how long it takes if a car is left outside before red paint gets UV damage (fading)

Is there anyway of finding out if a car has been painted with a "Clear coat" Plus does 2 pack paint help?

Probably a better way, but get some T-Cut or some ScratchX and use a white microfibre towel, if when you're cleaning it, the towel goes red. You have a single stage paint system, if not....Well then there is clear coat.

Thats the way I'd found out, 99% of modern ish. cars would have a clear coat. They were introduced in the 80s.

You can bring faded back up by machine polishing it.

I was told (maybe wrong) that just makes the paint fade even more over time.....

Well only if you don't protect it, if you polish it up and then leave it without any wax or sealent, yes its gonna fade.

If you have faded paint (any colour) and you need to repaint just one panel you wouldn't want to use the original colour code as the new panel would stand out like a sore thumb. So is it possible to match the "faded" colour so it all joins in properly?
