polish and then a couple of coats of wax each week. doesn't take long to do on such a small car.

I noticed you have a red mini do you have trouble with fadeing?

The one i have at the moment is a work in progress, and is getting prep'd for a full re-spray in Tartan red. My last mini was also red, and was very faded when I got it. I polished each panel several times to get rid of minor scratches and swirl marks, and then waxed it every week. Never had a problem with fading. I used Auto glym polish (red one) and meguirs wax.

Been told, as long as you use a decent polish (regular) you should not have a problem of your red car fading under the hot British sun.

the only problem with polishing it regularly to stop it from looking faded is that eventually you will polish thru the paint. If you imagine, every bit of red that comes ofc onto your polish cloth, is a tiny bit of paint thickness. so eventually , usually on the edges first you will see the paint becoming see-thru.
Yes coating it with wax regularly will help, but its not a permanent solution. it will still fade.
The only way to fix it properly is to paint it with a clear coat.
you can match the faded paint if you need to paint one panel, but the problem is that the new paint wont fade like the old paint. It will sooner or later look different anyway. :gimme:
But All This probably wont happen as quickly for you as it does over here in AUS
I was Spray painting for 12 years, so i had this fun to deal with on a regular basis. ;D

just remember, polish is abrasive, and will remove paint over time.

You can bring faded back up by machine polishing it.

Not if its been clear coated, the red paint under the laquer fades and no amount of polishing will restore the shine.

1k paint ie cellulose paint fades easily.

2k HS paint is direct gloss which does not require clear coat and if the paint is of a good quality will not fade much or quickly. If it does it will polish up to a certain extent.

Base and clear is a base coat applied in the colour of choice. Once dried a clear coat (lacquer) is applied over the top which protects it from UV rays etc and does not fade much at all. A common issue with this is peeling lacquer due to improper drying times of the basecoat.

It is what type of paint you use really not the colour.

Hope this helps.

There is not much chance of clear coated red fading, provided it's done properly.

Car was re-sprayed before I bought it. But as it was 25 years old, not surprising really.
