Couple of corrections there buddy,

The shelf stackers generally work nights and are paid more than any other general assistant. Trolley boys are paid the same as till staff as they're general assistant too, and finally health and safety us the job of everyone in the store, but as a union health and safety rep it's my job to report it to the local authority if they don't follow the rules.

Thank you for that information, however I didn't actually intend to start a debate about the career structure and payscales within the supermarket retail industry. As it happens, it's a rather large industry involving a number of different employers, and therefore there is likely to be some variation across the industry with regard to who is paid what, to perform which role. The explanation I gave with regard to this, was in fact correct across the particular chain of stores that I worked in. It is clearly a very different situation within yours though and therefore I can only apologise if I gave the impression that the rank structure is identical in every supermarket across the land.

As for the health & safety issue, if you read my original post, what I actually stated was that it wasn't generally the role of a trolley boy to "enforce" health & safety in the car park. "Reporting" of Health & safety issues, is of course a very different matter and is the responsibility of all employees across all industries, as per the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

If you read my subsequent post you will see that the point I was actually trying to make in all of this, was less about how much anyone gets paid, and more about people trying to exert/abuse the authority that they seem to think that a uniform gives them.

I did get stopped once for my passenger not wearing their seatbelt but there was good reason why they weren't. There weren't any in the back of my mini.

I explained this to the police offer who before I had chance to explain proceeded to produce me a defective vehicle notification. I pointed out to him that I wasn't going to pay the DVN as my mini wasn't defective and that he should check the registration of my car and when it was built.

After a bit he came back and said 'Your car was built in April 1986. So what?' (his actual words). I pointed out to him that rear seat belts were not mandatory until 1989.

Now I have no problem with a police officer stopping me and telling me that a passenger should be wearing a seatbelt. I can understand that he was not able see the lack of seat belts when following me and that safety is part of his job.

What I do object to though is the 20 minute lecture I got off him afterwards telling me how I shouldn't waste police time, that my car was dangerous, should be scrapped and that I should buy a new car. Its not my fault he doesn't know the rules about seatbelts.

The other thing is that I was stopped after I had just dropped my friend off and they were the one that had been sitting in the back. I had seen the police officer following me from about 5 miles before I got to my friends house, so he wasn't exactly doing his job either as he had ample time to pull me offer and tell my passenger to put their (none existent) belt on.

I believe it is not permissible to prevent you from continuing on your lawful business for more than 10 minutes unless they are reporting you for a specific offence. A complaint to the Chief constable would most certainly be in order here.

Your right in what you're saying cooperman but in reality all a call to the chief will do is get you pulled every time they see you, you can shout harassment all you want they'll be able to justify it somehow.

It's a sad fact of life but I've always found that the best way to deal with coppers is to humour them let them have their little place and be on your way, there's bigger things in the world to worry about

Its been 4 years since I drove my mini so I think its a bit late now but its still nice to get one over on the police.

I've never been pulled over by the police, not in my old Mini or the C2 but then again I drive quite sensibly. I don't do many miles either. I would imagine the 1275GT would probably be pulled over though, it's painted mostly in primer, has massive rust holes in the front panel and has a twin exit Playmini exhaust which makes a ridiculous amount of noise.

I am 21 got pulled over in my instructors car on the way to my driving test apparently he couldn't see my instructor but since I passed in November have not had an issue. Used to get stopped at least once a week when I was cycling home at half 1 in the morning when I used to work as a barman stinking of alcohol used to be a right pain trying to explain were I worked.  Apparently you can be arrested if your drunk and in control of a bicycle lol

Ive only ever been stopped twice.

Once at 17. The day i passed my test.
I drove to hendon to the pub to see my mates and left the pub at 11ish with a bunch of us in the car. What i forgot to do i turn on my lights. Approx 50ft from the pub the rozzers pulled me over and then breathilised me.(not been drinking) and sent me on my way.
On the same night i managed due to the north circ roundabout at brent cross i got on the M1 motorway towards luton (oh ****) but i figured it out after bricking it and got back home at 4am!!

Second time i was in finchley and had 8 people in my fiesta. 1 in the boot 2 in passenger seat and 4 in the back and me. Stupid i know. So the police signalled me to pull over. Luckly they were far enough behind that when i stopped i managed to get the two people out the front seat before they saw. They pulled up behind me and asked me how many people i have extra in my car.( they couldnt see as the windows were steamed up)
I said one and i got a telling off. No biggy. Bloody lucky though. Havent done that again.

Now 24 and havent been stopped since 18. So not too bad.
I think being a girl I am luckyer too.
But I do look young for my age. I always get asked for id.

Hey guys, this is getting beyond a joke now!

I've been pulled up AGAIN in EXACTLY the same place. that's 3 times, out of four...

I knew he was following me, I had been watching him (and speeding to try and catch up with me becuase of lights etc) so I turned off down a shortcut. When I got to the end he had gone round the block and was infront of me. Unless he can travel in time he must have been doing 80MPH in a 40 (without his lights).  He stopped me and accused me of speeding..I wasnt taking any of it because it wasn't true! He then went on to tell me that i had gone round the corner sideways  O_O  this was utter *******, so I asked him how much of a moron he thought I was, knowing he was behind me.

In the end he checked my tyres. I had a bald-ish tyre that he got his gauge on. wrote down on his peice of paper that is was 0.9mm which i was shocked at, as the tread depth indicators are still there.

in this time there were now 3 police cars, literally blocking me in. one of the coppers told him it was fine and to leave me alone but he carried on.

He told me i will get ATLEAST 3 points and a fine...

First thing i did when I got home was check my tire, and my god, he's such a lying tw*t. most of the tire measures about 1.8mm, although some is as low as 1.5mm (so illegal) but that's not on.

I went to the police station today, but they werent even open. I don't know what to do about this, but I'm not getting him get away with this.

I used to want to be a copper, and do something uselfull. I had utmost respect for them.. but not any more.

If he was really 'protecting the public' he would have had some 'words' with me about my tires (which i was getting done this week), but not make the accusations that he did. He was welll and truly 'picking' on me...
