I'm not going to go into how corrupt the police are as I'd be here for ever, but I have little/no respect for them too. I don't believe they do it to "protect and serve" mainly to feed their ego and get a substantial paycheck at the end of it.

Do Any Other Young Drivers Get Pulled By Police Often?

surely if the tyre is still legal you can simply take the conviction to court? Personally I like to have a good set of tyres because it makes the car feel so much nicer to drive.

I got pulled the other day! its a non mini i was in, a Renault 21 estate, a little beat up. They even pointed out it was because i was young! The policeman was very apologetic though when he called my sister a guy!!!

I will be doing yes. Going to take pictures and also film myself checking depth etc as evidence.
I know, it's just one wheel because the tracking's out but I'm fitting a new rack and brand new wheels and tyres this weekend

i dunno how the law works with this sort of thing but i guess they're counter argument would be that the tyre your measuing is a different tyre that the policeman measured on the side of the road, they'll say you went home and swapped the tyres or somthing
did you take any photographs at the time? any distingusing features in the tyres? over spray that sort of thing?

The law on tyers is stated here. If your tyres match this which it sounds from you description they do(just!) then you've got nothing to worry about. I wouldn't drive on that tyre any more so as to preserve the rest of it and get any other marginal ones changed now

Don't worry, I've been driving on my spare since. I'm ordering a new set of wheels and tyres on friday (payday)

Did he caution you, or issue any defect notice? I'd check carefully that the tyre is legal first, it will be an offence you can be prosecuted for whether or not you are being picked on.
If you are happy it was legal make a formal complaint and offer your car for inspection in as unaltered a condition as possible - don't drive to the cop shop, just in case - you wouldn't want to be knicked for the same offence twice! Arranging an appointment and taking somebody with you would be a good idea.
