Hello all

I have an 86 Austin Mini with a 1275 and HIF carb.  I just imported it from the UK and have had this problem from the get-go.  The car runs extremely rich, plugs are  black.  I've turned the jet adjusting screw both ways  but it literally has no effect on it at all.  I can drive it but it spits and misses.  I also bought from the same guy at the same time a 83 Austin Mini and it reacts exactly the same way.  According to the seller they were running fine.  I trust the guy, I made an overpayment of $3000 for shipping and he promptly returned it to me.  I did clean the plugs.  Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Terry

If the mixture screw does nothing on the HIF I would strip the carb and you'll most likely find the lever mechanism that moves the jet broken, you say you inported the cars thecarburation settings could be out due to where you are in the world

I appreciate the replies, they help. Since turning the mixture screw with no change it does make sense that something is broken inside.

It has a BDL needle.

Strip down and inspect, probably BDL is too rich for your climate aswell

Or an air leek between the manifold and the carb.
