OKAY! finally got the heater all plumbed up and fixed into position. Still need to source bigger bore ducting for the windscreen, these ones dont really fit on, hence the duct tape =) massively improved though and actually clears the windscreen. Next for the interior is to change the dash, change the door cards to black, change the headlining to black, pop a cage in there and that'll be that =)

So, we decided to start the brake conversion. Not a bad little job in the end. Just struggled with the hub nut. An absolute ball ache to release.

After much annoyance and many brews...we were ready to sack it off but i tried my wizzy gun from work, worked a treat! Buzzed it straight off, so the build was back on!

When everything was removed we then decided to pop the new GAZ shock in place, again as the mini has been looked after it wasnt the hardest job in the world =)

Then, it was a case of bolting everything back into place. The kit is great because you get new nuts and bolts, and everything fits in the same holes, so theres no modding needed. Once the caliper was in place then the pads slipped straight in =)

The suspension will be setup by my friend next week, as the geometry will have changed slightly.

Just on with the backs now, so hopefully it'll be done and on the road pretty soon!

Thanks for looking guys =)

Bit of an update...this is what she looks like now with the new 10 inch wheels on. Handles brilliantly now and with the new brakes stops properly too!

Next is the engine. Gonna attempt to get a few more horses out of the 1275.....the plan is to get rid of the two 1 1/4 inch carbs and go for the HIF44 single carb setup.

More of this when all the parts arrive =)

Your discs are technically on the wrong sides, but it won't cause you any real issues.

Looks really nice now though! You've done a good job

The grooves should be facing the opposite way, makes no difference on mini brakes as the vents are straight and don't follow the grooves.

For future reference the vents should always allow air to be drawn out, so the vents should effectively face backwards. Buy as I said above, the vents on mini brakes are machine straight so realistically makes no difference either way around

I asked Minisport in person and they told me the above is the correct way.

Actually the groves are right either way. Facing forward you get more braking performance but there will be more noise generated as a result. Facing in to out performance is less but they will be quieter.
It varies on different types of brakes too. On my old 106 gti, the brembo brake setup I had...the groves had to go opposite as I have done with the mini. It all depends on the manufacturer.

Cheers for the comments though guys. It's coming along nicely

PROGRESS!

Okay, after a while of being annoyed and pissed off with the performance of the mini, i decided to get something sorted, behold...the HIF44 carb!

image_zps771fb71b.jpg

We removed the twin 1 1/4 inch carbs and actually the manifold cracked on removal, probably giving me a nasty air leak...causing poor performance.

I also bought a set of 1.5 roller tip rockers, a turbo head gasket and a new manifold gasket. And also bought the uprated valve springs

Once everything was fitted and setup...it ran pretty well. But I still wasnt very happy. So I booked it in for a rolling road session at MiniSport. Here, Rob sorted it out. Filed the profile on the needle slightly, disconnected the vac, adjusted the timing and had a bit of a fettle about.

We also did a power run and it produced some great results!

And heres the graph!

Producing 82bhp and 77ft/lb torque. Not bad for a relatively standard engine =)

My next plans are to de chrome everything, the grill, bumpers, filler cap, door handles, wing mirrors and wiper blades. The interior is also being re done. Ive soarced some new seats, ive git a new dash and gauges to fit. So watch this space, big changes coming up

A little photoshop aswell of what it'll look like, thinking of going for satin black. Ive toyed with the idea of carbon fibre but it costs an arm and a leg. And wrapping doesnt look brilliant imo. =)
