What Is This Relay For?

what is this? it has a purple/orange wire and a green/white wire going into it and the connectors are pretty corroded on...

 

Electrically my hazards do not work (indicators do) also wipers only working on the fastest setting and do not park.

thought I would clean this up and see if it fixes either but i'd like to know what it is first! :)

never mind..... looks like it is the hazard flasher relay..... but I thought this was meant to be under the dash and not in the bay???

Depends on the age of the car. I've got a 97 car and the relay is behind the dash

looks like the hazard flash relay by the looks of the wires and where the metal tags are on it. as for the whipers clean up your connections on the motor and clean the earths or it could be down to the stalk connector sticking. take the casing of around the steering column and have a look at the connector.

I've always found a round relay behind the clocks and a square one on the bulkhead. Also the wipers only working on one setting/not parking would be the park switch  on the back of the wiper motor.
