Wise ones! I'm looking for a compressor that I can use for painting/various air tools and spotted this:

It's VAT free at the moment for £180 which looks like an good deal.

 

Will this do for spraying with celly?

It will work for spraying as i did my wifes mini with one like this many years ago.

 

However it will run quite a lot and also generate quite a bit of water so a decent moisture trap is a must. Without it you will end up with issues like micro blistering etc.

 

As for air tools its not really suitable as most decent tools like drills, grinders etc are air hungry. I upgraded to a 3hp motor 100 litre receiver unit which is a lot better and does not run as much but is still not perfect.

 

It really does depend on several factors, your budget being the biggest, the amount of space you have for a compressor, what you want to use it for and also the tools you are going to use.

Got mine in a seperate shed so noise isn't an issue but its pretty quiet anyway

Yeah that looks good, guess i'm better off paying more but buying it once.. Learnt that the hard way after buying two welders!!!

What you must remember with all of the ones we have suggested is the electrical rating of them. They will all need a 30 amp rated dedicated socket for them.

 

I have a split consumer unit in my garage with a circuit purely for the compressor. Initial start uploads are high and will trip a standard 13 amp circuit.

This is a valid point, that said I have got away with  a standard socket and even used it with an extension lead (uncoiled) without any problems.

The wolf one above has some good reviews but best to take outlet from receiver end not from the built in regulator, I went for a clarke industrial se16c100, same as the one above but smaller receiver, I use an air sander with no problems, I had it on a vat free voucher so was a good deal, also look in your local machine mart as they often have them in the clearance section. The larger receiver just gives added initial capacity if you are constantly using air once it dropped in pressure its still the compressor motor doing the work. I have had no issues with 100 litre capacity, although when I get an airfed mask I need to add another compressor as these with a spraygun consume a lot of air well outside a 3hp compressor capacity.

If your painting, look for a bigger tank. But the one in the link you put up will do it...

lidl have got a 2.5hp compressor at the mo and i'm sure it's only around £80. could get two and link them together. also i'm sure they come with a 3 year warranty so what have you got to loose.

that's not free air though, chances are will be more like 10cfm

 

 

 when I get an airfed mask I need to add another compressor...

 

you'll need  bloody good filter setup for breathing air.

I just bought one of these for the garage to power guns, die grinder and small HVLP for spraying blocks etc...  More than up to the job, very portable, small foot print and very keenly priced....
