One of my rear brakes is stuck on, so yesterday I was going to take it apart and fix it.

I took the wheel off and tried to unscrew the drum, but it is rusted still.

I used a lubricant to try to relieve some of the friction between the two surfaces, but it still won't move.

Any advice would be helpful. I don't particularly want to drill it out, obviously.

The head of the brake drum screw is countersunk so bit of a job trying to weld a big nut on it, but hit the face with a hammer several times and if you don't have a impact screwdriver then get a stout well fitting screw driver and hit the end whilst twisting it. it it wont budge then a small chiesel and try and tap it around. Impact driver has always worked for me, never had to drill any out yet.

I have one like this which has loads of different sized bits, The big handle makes it easy to undo screws like that and alos the door hinge ones too. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2a1688c62f

The nut will work on 2 levels, give a better grip by being a socket head, and the heat will work as well.

But I'd try impact driver first.

I don't replace the screws, not needed, the wheel and wheelnuts hold it all on.

You could also if poss wind a couple of wheelnuts on see if it takes the pressure off the screw enough

Oh yeah, I woul use an impact driver first, and wouldnt normally change the screws, and tightening the wheel nuts on is a good idea, if you've got open ended wheel nuts...... which I havent :(

You have a tight brake drum retaining screw, how many here have access to a welder ? All I'm saying is its making a big job out of a little job and your picture shows a radiused bolt

Get a decent small chisel and pick up the edge of the screw head and rotate it off. If that doesn't work, just drill the head off.
