How many times  do we have to remind people not to give inaccurate advice if you don't know the subject properly

Not good enough - here's the proper solution:

>> That's some good info - eternally thankful - it's given me ideas.  I mentioned CBS - they produce a corrugated exhaust pipe so in theory a couple of silencers could run outward and back inward to a third one.  I'll email maniflow as has been recommended here.

Be careful - gas doesn't flow well down corrugated tube or around tight bends so you might find you start strangling the engine but it's nothing to do with the actual silencers.

like Iain says, the aim with the exhaust is to have the internal bore of the tube as smooth and gentle as possible.

you shove an induction kit on to get the air into the engine as fast as possible don't you? likewise the exhaust has to get the air back out as fast! but not too fast either >_<

a good sized bore steel or stainless tube (which I would imagine you already have in your system) and wide swept curves, one or two decent silencers in line or parallel like mentioned before should see a reasonably decent exhaust note at an acceptable volume.

From the y piece in the LCB, just put silencer after silencer with maybe a small flexi in between each all the way back to the back box, side exit would also make it quieter still - this would effectively make one huge silencer :P

For your interest this link below shows pics of the twin-silencer box /twin centre exit exhaust as fitted to the supercharged R53 MINI Cooper S (I doubt the classic Mini has sufficient space between rear subframe for this exact setup)......a popular mod in the world of new MINI's is to remove one of the boxes for performance and sound (One Ball Exhaust) as shown......the R50 One and Cooper have a single box and enough space to mount a spacesaver spare wheel alongside....unlike the MCS which also has the battery box in the boot floor like a classic.

Sometimes you have to step back and remember the high level and sometimes even remember the simple things.

You've brought me to that 'reminder' - it's sometimes easy to get too deep at the complex level. Cheers for that.

Dammit! I quickly saw these pics and was blown away (excuse the pun) and I was going to start begging 'who is that from / who makes it?' Then I took a bit of time to actually READ the post.  Silly me!

Rhys

I'm short on cash for the mo (no job) but I suspect it will be a case of eventually leaving the car with a specialist (most likely mini-speed) to experiment and attempt a few twists and turns similar to the non-mini mini pics.

They were very confident of being able to do something when I asked at castle coombe last year - plus I trust them as they more or less built the car.  Someone give me a job!!!!!

Update:

Gutted the car to relay all my electrics and stuff.  Found some lead laced carpet underlayy from cbsonline - will probably fit that.  Exhaust work comes when I have an income!

....so having an income (at last!!!) makes me more likely to get this job done.

I have - on one hand

   - minispeed who have very much 'sorted' my mini (yes there were sone costly bits and on one occasion a near-on undrivable machine that went back to be sorted and have a 'step up' re - S/C different spindle thing to cause more breath age (and a nice 142 bo)

and

    - http://www.profusioncustoms.com - who I met at the Uxbridge motor event.  The presumption being that this lot do exhausted - mainly = and should know a trick or four about customising a bespoke system which (apparently) sings a nice song and does have presence albeit not a bloody great racket.

Anyone heard of them?

Cheers

ok unless i missed it, what exhaust is currently on the O.P's mini?

a twin box maniflow should have it allot quieter and i would recomend going that route as others have said too.

the other thing i would say is that i find stainless systems tend to be slightly louder, even when comparing like for like, i assume it must be becuase the harder material "rings" more, if you tap a stainless pipe with a hammer, then do the same to a mild steel one, you can hear the difference quite clearly.
