My stereo sounds fab :-) until I start the engine . I have the lcb and an rc40 coming out of a 1275. It does sound most fab though . I have always wondered if a second box would quiet it substantially . Also I think the k&n filter also adds on extra DB's .

ok unless i missed it, what exhaust is currently on the O.P's mini?

a twin box maniflow should have it allot quieter and i would recomend going that route as others have said too.

the other thing i would say is that i find stainless systems tend to be slightly louder, even when comparing like for like, i assume it must be becuase the harder material "rings" more, if you tap a stainless pipe with a hammer, then do the same to a mild steel one, you can hear the difference quite clearly.

I might be showing dimness but what does O.P's mini mean?

To answer your questions - I believe the exhaust system is made by maniflow (rc40?) at least the exhaust manifold is - and it comprises a resonator and 1 silencer out of which comes twin pipes upswept - and then bleeding ears.  Believe it or not - every time I start the bloody thing the neighbour's car alarm goes off!

I originally asked minispeed for something quiet and - from the zorst suppliers they use and put on - the current one is the quietest of the bunch.  I was told the other makes would be deliberately noisier - this was a long time ago so I can't remember the manufacturers.  However - "noisier?" - If I had that then people would think that Concord was back in service!

It is mild steel - which they (m/speed)  concur with you - i.e. mild steel is always quieter than the stainless steel counterpart.

Minispeed now believe they could make silencers fit in various places (sounds like they've got new machinery - they have acquired more square-footage recently.)

I met the other company at the uxbridge event - they manufacture exhausts as per customer requirement - which sounds kinda expensive.

An apology - I posted the last message whilst tired and did not check grammar, spelling etc and the mac does what the iphone does - that is - it tries to work out what word you're trying to type - eg bo rather than bhp!  Re-reading it, I'm amazed you deciphered it!

K & N's? - try a supercharger barking down the inlet manifold for a laugh!

I will have to do that - for the moment my mini and me are not on talking terms. If you've seen my other thread I've got issues regarding putting the electrics back together again (plus central locking).

It's got a great bodykit and has been painted with that paint that changes colour.  I can't remember the body kit name nor the paint system!

I'll post a build thread once it behaves again  :xxx:
