Dumb question; why the harness bolts when you've got a harness bar?

EDIT: And, the car's coming together nicely IMHO. Clubmans are SO much better for Vauxhall conversions. It sits really nice on the 6 x 13s too. ;)

not a dumb question at all. pic taken from tmf FAQ section. if you bolt ther harness into the rear belt mounts, the straps come off the seat at a sharp angle which isn't the best work angle to hold you in. straps should come off the front seat close to horizontal. the harness bar allows for this.

well, spend the whole of the weekend spannering away to get it ready for this weeks 5 day trip to the "Ring".

just left to do before thursday are to bolt the bonnet back on, eezi-bleed the brakes, put some proper bands on the cv boots (got the proerp tool as the cable ties were allowing breases to spray out and bolt the passenger bucket in.

got the serck/minsport 70's right hand tank fitted in and plumbed into the mpi tank - the rh tank isn't at 3 bar like the mpiu one, so its just carb fuel line, standard filter and a fuel tap. currently strapped in place by a bungy cord until i fab up a metal strap. should now have 13 gallon capacity which at 35mpg is about a 450 mile range.

sprayed up ther passenger side and drivers front wing
Posted Image

fitted all the glass back in, bolted the boot lid back on and refitted the grp 5 arches
Posted Image

bonnet sprayed
Posted Image
Posted Image

5 point harness clipped in and adjusted - very comfy seat actually but i did strip it back and added some extra close cell foam to the base and lumbar area

got back from the ring yesterday after a great long weekend. left dunkirk ferry at 1130, arrived in nurburg at 420pm including 20mins refuelling stop.

did a few laps, enjoyed using the acceleration to upset a few M3's lol. not particularly fast laps as i didn't want to expore the edges of the handling on the ring - not wise really.

had clubby up to 106mph on the unresticted parts of the autobahn.

plenty of tweaks and mods to do on the clubby now

its an off the shelf Rustoleum shade. somewhere between 60's almond and willow green. cheap though at £33 for 2.5L and hardly used any.

hi, really like the work.
you may have already mentioned somewhere, but what type of car was the donar for the 2.0 red-top?

ive always wondered with engine conversions how you deal with the difference in wheel size between sponsor and donar vehicles...
leading on to me asking, whats its motorway cruising speeds like, i mean 70-80mph, how fast is the engine spinning, and how much do you have left?

(obviously you will have found this type of thing out on private land  )

doner car was a 92 vauxhal chavalier gsi, last of the line dispack redtops.

i think the doner car would have rolled on 15's so the 13's with low pros are obviously smaller , but then that contributes to the acceleration (0-60 at a guess is 5sec). 70mph equates to 4000 rpm....so high.....tops out around 120.

i have a F18 "wide ratio" gearbox out of a vectra to go in, which lowers 70mph cruising down to about 3200rpm, so much better. effects the acceleration slightly but gives a theoretical top speed of roughly 140

reason i ask, is ive just been given a 2.0 vectra (96). is there much difference between this and the red-top.

if I was thinking about fitting this into a clubman, is there any reason why the cavalier engine seems to be favoured over the vectra?

other than, im assuming the older 'red-top' is a quicker engine?
