I agree that this may HELP thieves however, I think it will raise awareness to the general public who might have seen some of the daylight robberies that have been going on. The show miht make people think twice when they see some people loading a mini onto a truck in the middle of the day, instead of just presuming all is well.

Still, the thefts are shocking at the minute, so any potential improvement is good in my eyes.

In an ideal world, yes I think that would happen. However, the reality is the majority of people want an easy life and will not confront people these days. People are too worried they will get stabbed or killed or something like that. For example, Nigella Lawson was being violently treated by her husband in a restaurant and no body did anything at all. People just don't do it.

A-Cell - I only caught the back end of the programme so didn't see it all but I agree - it definitely looked like the reason anything was done was because of the enthusiast. Its a real shame, but the MG scenario does offer a glimmer of hope to those who have been unfortunate and lost their mini in this way. Of course, the publicity could also result in the gang changing tactics and stripping the cars. It's really not very good coverage for the poor mini.

And believe me, I know we don't live in an ideal world. How else to people get away with so much wrong-doing even on simple terms, like in the superb nigella example you have raised. I guess I'm one of the few who isn't worried about self preservation, even if we are in the society for it.

On balance I suppose it's a bit of a no win situation. On the one hand might help get the Minis back on the other could make for copycat crimes. Lets hope the former and people get their Minis back.

If you watched the full program you don't need to brake into a mini anyways, as clearly a lot of stupid people leave modern cars unlocked with stuff outon display.

Was that 'Maggies Minder' being interviewed?

I thought it was quite a good piece of TV.

Not at that time in the morning I suppose.

I was more worried about wayward teenagers who'd look at breaking into a Mini faster than their expert as a challenge. All in all not bad telly, perhaps a bit more emphasis on  advising classic car owners on added security and awareness (such as where best to park), the spate of thefts was enough encouragement.

Thought the copper did well no to rise to the inane questions from that presenter - had she never seen a Mini before???

"Why did the Police use Minis?" - You mean the car that was winning lots of  international rallies? Because they didn't have helicopters back then.

"How did the tall policemen fit in?" - They took their helmets off first

Amazing, you'd think if there was one programme they'd leave up it'd be one they want lots of people to watch & respond to as a public service  O_O

Looks like there are a few on Youtube, 'n maybe the brum police have a site?
