how have you stopped it moving though, surely it can slide down further if not fixed.

our m&m kit came with the ring and also a rotor arm with built in magnet ring, so we used the combined rotor arm

I wonder if you can buy those rotor arms separately?
Yes you can. Go to... http://www.accuspark...pare_parts.html
and it's the 5th one down by the looks of it. I might invest in one.

Paul.
Just what I was thinking

It's been a lot more hassle than I was expecting but it's so much better than having points. I would never have had the problem if I had bought the Accuspark one as it comes with the combined rotor and magnet ring but mine only had the separate ring.

As soon as I got the thing working the car fired right up after a 2 year restoration so I may just finish this project hahaha

Paul.

I've just bought a new rotor arm so I'll glue the two together for now and when the rotor arm needs replacing I'll buy the combined one. Sorted!

Coleman - Two words to you; THANK YOU!

I have a powerspark ignition module (like-for-like of the accuspark module)
I bought it for my first mini over 2 years ago, i had no luck fitting it, took it to my main mini who fitted my stg.1 kit at the same time - he got it working beautifully.
Now on my second mini went to fit the module myself again - But still nothing, had it firing on one cylinder only?!
New leads, arm, coil & cap later still the same. swapped points back in, all components working fine & running on all 4 cylinders.
I've been going crazy!
Will refit and shuffle the rotor arm about tomorrow see if anything sparks up!

Eventually I figured out what the problem was. Now this may have been mentioned in the instructions but I lost them!! The shaft on the distributor allows you to fit the ring which contains the magnets at various positions and if you slide it too far down the shaft it won't work. So you have to fit it so that it is just under the rotor arm and then it's within it's operating range.
I used a light bulb in parallel with the positive and negative connections on the coil so that I could see it flash as I turned the car over.

The can't be pushed on to far unless you a little heavy handed, or try to fit it the wrong way round. It actually has tags to stop it in the right position..........
Mine doesn't! It goes all the way down and will pretty much rub on the base plate.

Paul - a had a play last night and guess what - worked a treat! A simple thing to fix, I wonder if Accuspark are aware of this issue?

wonder if they chaged the magentic ring, because this picture of the Britpart kit does show a shoulder that should stop the ring going to far down.

Exactly the same as the old spare I have sitting on the bench here, if as the above post states it missing. Seems like a certain supplier copies aren't quite what there supposed to be..........

Exactly right just checked to 2 new powersparks units I have here and they have a small shoulder at one end to stop to trigger ring being incorrectly fitted on the shaft

Mine are ones from powersparks from last year, wonder if they have changed them?

Anyone bought one recently from powersparks or accusparks who can confirm they still have the sholder to stop them being pushing the trigger ring to far over the shaft?

Mine has the shoulder but looks much thicker than the one in the pic, when seated there was only about 0.5mm clearance to the base plate. I have sat it up about 2-3mm on the shaft and it is working. I have ordered one of the combined rotor arms so when I swap it out I will get a pic up.

I bought a an accuspark module the end of last year from ebay which has the shoulder on the pickup ring but I used the combined rotor arm and ring as it was a bit easier and less hassle

Excellent - glad you got it working Clive.

Don't remember seeing any shoulder on my Britpart trigger ring. I could slide it all the way down the shaft.

Cheers, Paul.

So the problem is the magnet trigger ring is pushed to low to switch the hall effect trigger unit effectively, what sort of air gap did you have between trigger ring and switch unit ?

Yes, if the trigger ring is too low it won't switch the hall effect sensor.

I measured a 2mm air gap and it works fine at that gap. I reckon the magnets are neodymium, so they're very strong and 2mm is not a problem.

Cheers, Paul.
