But again - if the laser cutter is an in-house machine that's kept busy then the cost per job is buttons.

I've used a piece of 3mm thick tube for the front crossmember and 2mm thick tubes for the diagonals (2 each side). Mainly because they were what I had on the steel pile - doing it again I'd use something lighter for the front crossmember. My frame will be heavier than a Mini frame but not by a lot and the engine and box are a good chunk lighter. To be honest I'm kicking myself a little for not weighing the frame beforehand so that I had a comparison. I do have a near standard Auto frame that I'll try to remember to do the comparison on before I throw them into the car.

problem with this is if someone built a frame and it broke and you crashed or killed someone it could come back to the guy who made if for man slaughter i thought about making a producing frames and to be honest its alot harder than people think the time that goes into making these subframes is a massive amount if you factor in material costs a labour all speed are very reasonable i would say they have got frames that are tried and tested looking back if i was going to build another micra mini i would save the hassle and buy a allspeed one

HI,

When making a frame to house any engine do all the big company have them test by a legal body e.g. VOSA?

or do they just test them with computer software or by actual impact testing?

thanks

I bet no one has tested anything, built on the principle if looks strong enough it probably is.

The watson metro based frame will be the exception as it will be crash tested as part of the metro car crash tests

Surely if someone made a frame 'kit' that was basically missing one bit that you welded yourself they could sell without liability? Of if they sold it as a paperweight?
