Machine Mart, Ebay, Most tool shops......halfrauds are a waste of time for most things anyway. Only go there if it's a sunday, and everywhere else is shut and you really have nowhere else to go!!!!!

Halfords professional range of tools are very highly regarded. Superb quality, good guarantee and a fraction of the price of facom or snap on.

They may well do a 'professional' range, but i very much doubt any professional mechanics would go anywhere near the stuff.  Snap-on if you can afford it.

My beef with Halfords is everytime i go in my local one, the shelves are never fully stocked, and if you can find what you want, it is overpriced when you compare it to my local small independant car parts supplier.

Plus the staff are usually next to no use at all and really don't want to help or even be there.

Halfords is ok if you want to buy a cheapo bike or a roof box or maybe at a push a stereo, but for 'proper' tools....naaaa.  In my opinion of course.

If you use your tools all the time and want them to last you a lifetime invest in good stuff....if you're just using tools occasionally for light work then anything in theory will do.

I know several professional mechanics who swear by them, that is where I heard about them. I use them to teach motor vehicle studies, they are used and abused daily and in over 15 years I have only had one failure which was immediately replaced. I forgot to mention to halfords that there was 6ft of scaffold pole on the other end of the spanner when the ring snapped. Snap on and facom are rip off prices because some people are prepared to pay for a name.

I'm pretty impressed with Halfords at the moment. Bought a S rated Bosch battery (£120) ywo years ago, couldn't find the receipt. Took it back and they exchanged it for a new one. No questions, no hassle, they just did it. Excellent seervice. Back to the question, I don't mind their tools.

.....get yourself on ebay then and snap up an AF set.  Bluepoint (as mentioned earlier) is just cheap rebranded snap-on.  You will pick up some bargains.  Otherwise find out where your local snap-on dealer lives and extend your mortgage and buy some new!!!

Halfords Pro (or Advanced Pro as they are branded nowadays) are easily the equal of Snap-On or Facom and if you've got a trade card then they are FAR cheaper. They will also price match your local store so overpriced they ain't - so long as you aren't Joe public walking in and just buying off the shelf at which point they bend you over and pull your pants down.

My only issue with them is stock but then they have always branded themselves as an accessories shop rather than a motor factors so they do what they say on the tin and more.

Unfortunately they also attract their share of muppets as staff who would be better off stacking shelves at Asda but that's life and you get them in all shops where they are simply seen as a shelf stacker and paid accordingly.

Most of my socket set is Halfords but for the imperials I've been getting them from Machine Mart.

I registered with them online a while ago and they send me "no VAT" on clarke products regularly.

You have to spend over a certain amount but its usually 30 or 50 pounds.

The professional imperial sockets and spanners I bought seem really good quality.

Came across them today, not the cheapest but Imperial none the less (and by "Imperial" I mean the measurement, not the "Imperial Dynasty" of China)
