What about the cost of penny sweets which are no longer a penny

Erm excuse me?...... I'll have you know they were "Ha-peny Chews" in my day!!!

That was until 1984, when they withdrew half pence coins and the price doubled overnight to "Penny Chews"!!...... That's 100% inflation in less than 12 hours ......and they try and blame New Labour for soaring inflation!!

I remember them! They were 2 for 1p for a while. 10p used to buy a feast LOL

 

 

I remember when I used to have to walk a mile to school each day in all weathers and stopping off at the sweet shop (that no longer exists) and buying a mixed bag of penny sweets for 50p to scoff during the day.

An old sixpence for a quarter of sweeties, Coca cola cubes, 1/2 penny sweets, the halfpenny arcade on Hastings pier, Joe 90, Captain Scarlett and the Mysterons, Thunderbirds, Stingray, Choppers for ultimate cool at school, NO BLOODY TRAFFIC, and plod was respected.

 

No disrespecting your teachers and if you did you got the cane or the slipper. Or the dreaded rule across the hand. Bloody painful.
