Seen the results of a man decanting acetylene using copper pipe before.
Still it's hardly a common practice and you'd only get away with it once so it's no excuse for the attitude of hobbyweld in this case.

Agreed, and if I were Hobbyweld, that is just about the last thing that I would have suspected. I would have been thinking more along the lines of a leaky valve, because that is by far the most likely. Frankly, is it worth risking losing a customer over a few quids worth of gas? That would be the view of most businesses these days, unless there was reason to actually suspect the customer. But there is just no accounting for stupidity, even in business.

Well what can I say......
Hobby weld certainatly know how to compensate their customers!!
I received a box of goodies from them today and I was surprised when I opened the box up to say the least!
Inside was a brand new auto darkening welding shield, a decent long, thick pair of welding gauntlets and a 5KG reel of 0.6 welding wire! according to the prices on their website, this lot would have cost me £95 to buy so i'm very pleased with the outcome.
Thank you Hobby weld!

That does sound much more like the Hobbyweld I've dealt with, I've always been very impressed with their level of customer service and have recommended them to others here a few times.

That is the benefit of forums! It seems a gentle push in the right direction has got a good result. And fair dues to Hobbyweld for putting their hand in thier pocket. Good outcome all round.I don't know about loosing "a" customer, I suspect they have lost dozens of potential customers who've read tis thread.Agreed, and if I were Hobbyweld, that is just about the last thing that I would have suspected. That is good news, and hopefully Hobbyweld will now retain their customers. A win all round. Good sense has prevailed.

Hi, would you recommend hobbyweld then? I'm looking to use them
I would recommend them as they are very reasonably priced. My problem was with the way they dealt with my bottle in the first place. After this thread and alot of phone calls they sorted it out. I have had a few bottles now and apart from that one, they have been fine. I would just take along my regulator to check the pressure before i take the bottle away.
Good luck
Ben

Hi
I've just read this thread very relevant to me as I've just changed to hobby weld and guess what when I fitted my reg it had just over 50 bar ,,
I rang my supplier ( in the merry hill area ) and to be fair he said bring it back and he will swop it for another.
Well I'm going on Thursday morning to change it so I will post here with the results
I will be taking my reg with me to put on the new bottle just to make sureimage.jpg. This is the pressure after I first fitted the reg
That was the way i expected my dealer to sort my bottle out. I'm glad that your supplier didn't have any problem replacing it. As i said before, defiantly take your regulator along as it seems that Hobby weld have a few more filling problems than their statistics say.
My supplier has bought a regulator since my problem and he is going to check all bottles before signing them out.
