or spend £10 on a mobile phone holder that goes on the dash and record with your phone.

I had the HD1 as well :P I had the standard case, i tried it with the sealed back and the vented one. Outside of the car the road and wind noise basically drowned out everything, inside it was better obviously but I still didn't think it was anywhere near satisfactory for the price I payed for it which was substantial at the time. Any movement at all in the GoPro was picked up as well, so there was always plenty of knocking noises to go with my road noise haha.

Aha, was just a friend seems to get sound issues with his HD2, it's not down to wind noise, it's like interference

so, did you get lots of wind noise with the full case on outside of the car, Mate? I've not tried mine outside but wanted another so I could fit my HD1 in the rear bumper.

the  movement that was all picked up is Shirley a positive point of it being solidly mounted :D sort out those knocks on yer Mini!! :P

A friend went to Florida recently & Walmart had HD3 Silver for £140, unfortunately he wasn't staying near any but they'd popped into one & he WhatsApp'd me the prices, more unfortunately I didn't get the msg until they had left  I could have got 2 for the the price of 1 here & ran them both off my phone in sync. :D /

Yeah, you get alot of wind noise even with the sealed case if you mount it anywhere on the front. You should be okay if your mounting it on the rear. The trouble is, if you want to mount it using the suction cup which is 99% of the time, then you will normally have at least one knuckle joint so you can alter the angle. Any time you go over even then tiniest bump it will rattle the GoPro at the joint (no matter how tight you screw it) and it will pick it up on the mic.

You MUST use a class 10 sdhc card in a GoPro else the sound really suffers.

Its best to use a screwdriver to do the thumb screws, ordinarily its fine but under high load situations you do get movement.

I've got a hero3 for which they upped the spec of the internal mic, iv had no problems of wind noise or rattling when i've been snowboarding (which i have when iv used my bosses hero2)

Like Danny I have a good solid window mount for my Galaxy S3 and the quality is great. You can download apps from google play or the app store and these turn your phone into a dash cam which records your speed/ GPS location/ Time & date. Handy if your involved in an accident and have the whole thing caught on video which is time & date stamped :-)

I have an S3 and used it to record a rag around Kentish lanes in the Puma. Unfortunately I have a really old, cheap, rubbish mount with a bendy neck so it bobbled around everywhere and gave me a nosebleed when I tried to watch it.

A youtube biker blogger (Baron Von Grumble - hilarious) I watch recommends the Drift HD over the Go Pro.

The problem with using a phone as a dashcam is the field of view is poor - can only prove what you did/didn't crash into at the front. What sort of view do you get if you mount it on the rear screen inside the car?

This is where the dedicated POV cameras excel due to the wide FOV (170*-180*)

Looks OK but it only records @170* FOV in 1080p 30fps  the GoP3 has loads more options for FOV v resolution :D

Way above my head I'm afraid. Just found a comparison vid of his, it's between the GoProHero2 and the Drift HD

Might have been before the GoPro3 was released? No idea.

It was, he says it's a GoP2. He's also constantly stating that the GoP will be better ie: better quality.

His main beef seems to be about the mounting of the camera itself. Says that others have an industry std. camera mount & GoP does not but he's wrong - I have just such a mount for mine :D

if he didn't have the Drift mounted where he did he could've just stuck the GoP there with a standard stick-on mount

Also, he's reviewing the GoP2, the GoP3 is smaller & doesn't require the case to mount it :D

Field of View, is the angle of view that the camera captures, My GoP1 will only work in 170 degrees so the picture appears rounded at the edges & everything appear to be 4x as far away  the newer cameras have he option to change the FOV to either 127* or 90*, this will straighten the overall image and make objects appear to be closer & you will appear to be going faster. The GoP 2 & 3 can do this at any resolution (quality), the Drift will only do it at 1080p

I find 1080p to be crap for trackdays as you can only get 30fps (frames per second), much better running at 720p resolution with a frame rate of 60fps :D: will 'photograph' twice as many frames per second which is better when yr going fast.

But you can't run the Drift like this, if you want the best field of view - 90* you have to run @1080p 30fps. With a GoP you can combine any resolution with any FOV setting :D

My view is crystal clear Oli. What I did to overcome this is I turned the leg thing around (where the phone slots in to) its as tight as a drum and no camera shake at all. I'll get some pics up tomorrow and a video to show you better
