Tekaloid is also a paint suitable for brush or roller application

Parsons Re-Paint used to be easily available, even from Halfords, and could be applied by brush, roller, mohair pad or of course spray. If I recall correctly the thinner for spraying was plain white spirit, certainly there was no need for the precautions necessary for two-pack. It seems to have been bough by Jenolite, and I can't find a source right now, but I think it must be similar to Tekaloid. There was also ICI Brushing Belco. These enamels had certain very obvious advantages for DIY use, and I had good success with Re-Paint many years ago. See below for Tekaloid info.

I will probably try Tekaloid the next time I am painting a vehicle, something that I don't particularly like doing. Nowadays I would start with etch on bare metal, or aerosol zinc on grit blasted bare metal, but last time I painted a car, that was not so commonly used. You can paint over either cellulose or acrylic (or presumably two-pack, epoxy etc) with enamel, but not the reverse. I think I will try a roller, encouraged by a number of successful instances on this forum.

I did try Re-Paint once in an airless spraygun a long time ago, and the results were very encouraging, but it turned out just as good by using a brush.

The secret is a slow drying paint so all brush and roller marks have a chance to settle out, only issue with this is they are not suitable in a dusty area, I used normal synthetic enamel from jawel mixed in dove grey to roller the underside of a car a few years ago and it dried very smooth and glossy.

Painted outside, under a cheap eBay gazebo. Left 2 months to cure then flatted and polished with a rotary.

Anyone who says you can't get a good finish, it's hard to do or needs specialist paints has no experience or clue in what they're on about. This was my first time roller painting and first time using a rotary polisher.

My whole paintjob cost me about £60 and if I'd bought less paint (over 2L left over) would have been under £50 easily.

The thing it does take is time.

The time spent on the colour sand and polish is going to be what makes or breaks a roller paint job in my opinion.  If you don't want to put that time in you aren't going to get the results.  I even color sand an polish spray paints and the difference is amazing in the flatness and quality of the finish.

Sorry to revive old thread but any more photos of the finished pain? Hows it holding up?

Im in the situation of having a mini with a very poor diy spray job from the last owner and looking for a cheap way to improve the paint for this summer, I do have a compressor and cheapo spray gun but am looking into all options!
