I've decided I may treat myself at Christmas to a new acoustic, this therefor means. I'll have to sell one.

I think I'm on a strictly one in one out basis now unless I can smuggle another into the house without the hubby noticing which is unlikely!! I really fancy a Gibson J45 Custom but my little Martin is getting played more than anything at the moment. Just back from an acoustic gig at a local pub. Was mental! People up and dancing all night - crazy stuff considering its just two acoustics and a cajon!!
Cheers

I am passing past Birmingham today so I might pop in to guitar-guitar by edgbaston and get an amp.

I hope you're mastering those chords now, davej! No slacking!
I've got myself a Korg metronome as recommended by Justin S, and half a dozen plectra (posh) of different thicknesses and a capo, total cost about £12 so nothing to lose really.
Apart from the basic chords I'm trying to get my fingers & head round the simple folk fingerpick sequence. I get them right a few times and then I go blank. Scary! Also any longer than 10 minutes' practice and my left wrist really hurts no comments please.
I found a pic of a guitar like the one I had in the late 50s. It was a Hofner Senator archtop and I put a floating pickup on it plugged in to the speaker of an old radio. It added about 3.5 decibels. I don't know what it cost, but I remember I couldn't afford a President or my fave, a Verithin blonde.
I was in a band called Blue Generation that played one gig, at Bristol Corn Exchange, in the early 60s. Our vocalist lost his voice and we had to play "One Night With You" as an instrumental by cranking up the one amp. Two girls screamed but the manager said we were awful. We disbanded.
I can't remember what other guitars I had back then apart from some sort of 12-string. I wrote a lot of tunes which I can't remember and some I can remember but can't play.
I suppose I must have had a really good time
You've got all that to come then!

I'm not slacking Mr Teapot just going to check the tuning and do a bit more practising now. Sounds like you've had some fun with guitars and music over the years
I managed to find the place in Birmingham after sitting in traffic for ages due to a run taking place but they did not have the amp I want do going to order it online.

How did you get on with the new amp??
I have got the house to myself this weekend so will have to plug the amp in and blast some chords

the new amp sounds just amazing! i am really pleased with it!
however, it is really powerfull, and there doesnt seem to be any real way to tame it! the master volume control starts to work between 1 and 2, if you go too low, its just goes silent, a fraction too high and it becomes very loud! i tried it on 3 briefly and it was killing us in the studio!
with some very carefull adjusting of the master knob, i did manage to get it down to a more managable level, but its still louder than i would like, and this is playing with live drums, a huge bass amp, and a 600w p.a. system for the vocals, (and we still couldnt hear the vocals properly over it!)

couldnt resist posting in a thread about guitars ... ive been playing about 10 yrs now and aside from my mini its my number one hobby... i envy the people who can buy and sell guitars without batting an eyelid. my problem is i get emotionally attached to all my guitars since all of them have a story lol... this means ive ended up with 9 1/2 (i like to build them as well) guitars cluttering my room, ive even still got the 3/4 sized Spanish acoustic i learned to play on
heres one im pretty proud of, although id doesnt get much play these days... my custom made Ratocaster
... dimarzo evolution pickups (bridge swapped to a d sonic), ibanez edge iii bridge, ESP tuners
my most played guitar is probably my custom Epiphone Les Paul... dimarzio d sonic/air norton pickups, bigsby b12 trem, roller bridge, grover tuners

You have 9?? Fair play to you. Very nice collection you've got, certainly very unique
Any tips on learning? I can play a few chords now and I'm just practising them and trying to move between them, struggling to get my fingers to stretch for some chords
