You have 9?? Fair play to you. Very nice collection you've got, certainly very unique

Any tips on learning? I can play a few chords now and I'm just practising them and trying to move between them, struggling to get my fingers to stretch for some chords  >_<

i can hardly believe it either haha, mostly ebay bargains though  ;D... just stay dedicated, you will probably get fed up many times but if you can get over the difficult learning period then it will become much more enjoyable, and as it becomes more enjoyable you will want to play more, meaning you will get better quicker  :D

one handy tip i found worked well when i was learning was to squeeze a squash ball while im watching telly or something... it really helps to strengthen your hand and fingers so they dont get as tired so quickly

also, dont overdo it. youre much better off playing for half an hour a day rather than playing for 4 hours and then not touching it for a week lol

I am trying to play for a bit most days, try and look at some tabs for songs and even though I kinda know what they mean my head still explodes. Squeezing the ball sounds like a great idea, might have to steal a rubber ball off the dog haha.

I picked this old thing up at an auction for £140 a couple of weeks ago, including the case.

It's a 1976 Ibanez copy of a Gibson Firebird. It's had a hard life and has bean modded during it's life. My plans are to change the colour and fit a pair of Seymour Duncan P-90 Phat Cats.

The paint job is a very thin rattle can job, and were it is chipped you can see yellow filler primer under it. Originally it would have had a sunburst finish, but as it has had a lot of alteration I'm going to be repainting it in Lake Placid Blue with Vintage White racing stripes down the centre.

The tuners are known as Banjo Tuners. Luckily they all work fine as they are not that easy to get hold of.

Go with Justin, davej! He shows what can be achieved with practice and is very encouraging. I'm labouring on this one

and for a laugh check out this one

I can't get near it yet! But I will. Half an hour a day is good unless the bug really bites and then as M Knopfler says you will be falling asleep over the dam guitar every night

I have just bought a secondhand lefthanded Squire Strat in sunburst.... It's my first guitar.

Promised myself one for over 25 years and am trying to learn......

Man, it's difficult. my right hand doesn't know what my left hand is doing....

...and my left hand doesn't have a clue either O_O

I'm just making 'noise' at the moment..

Any tips? Youtube vids for COMPLETE beginners??

If nothing else it looks pretty in the corner, with it's tweed amp and vintage tweed lead. I've got a tortoiseshell scratchplate coming with aged knobs...

So at least I can look like Kurt Cobain ;D

stick at it man, like i said above, the more you play, the better you will get, so you will enjoy it more, so you will play more... you get the picture  :P

the hardest part of learning the guitar is getting over that difficult introduction period when it feels like you cant play anything. if i had a pound for every time i nearly gave up it would fund my mini project three times over,, and now ive been playing 10 yrs  :D

i think the best tip i would give anyone is to get a professional teacher. they will know exactly what you should be focusing on and will help you improve much faster

That is really nice guitar you have got there Surfblue, you should do a project thread for it so we can see what you're doing with it.

I saw an advert for Rocksmith 14 the other day, I have an electric guitar, is it worth getting?

Teapot I am going through Justin's lessons slowly, he is very good, I just tried that finger excercise and I've got no chance at the moment  >_< (the two videos you posted are both the same lesson).

Stick with it Chop, it is hard I agree but will be worth it in the end. They do look good in the corner  ;D

I'll post some pictures when it is done.

In the meantime here's a Yamaha Pacifica that I rebuilt a few years ago.

As it came out of the box, less strings and tremolo arm
