I'm very pleased with it, it's as versatile as I'd hoped. It does sound very raunchy and mean on the neck pick ups but switch to treble and the sound is just lovely, it turns into a true Fender with those Telecaster vibes that you just don't get with any other guitar. I'm impressed with the HumBuckers, I was scared they'd sound very different to a regular single coil Tele, they do to a degree, but if you want the Telecaster sound, you can have that too.

I'm impressed with the way it plays. Also happy that it doesn't say 'Blacktop' anywhere and is just badged a Telecaster. Although it's a special edition, to me it is a Telecaster, sure it's slightly hotrodded compared to standard models, but I wouldn't want that to be obvious with it written on the headstock or anything.

The pots are solid shafts rather than splined split shafts so the knobs I bought don't fit. The ones on it look much better in real life and they are growing on me, but I think one day I'll definitely revert back to standard Telecaster knobs and switch the switchplate around to bring it back to a proper Telecaster style :-)

In fact at the time my mate wanted a proper Gibson SG and we went looking for one, despite the quadruple price tag we couldnt find one as good as my epi, the only thing that let it down was the pickups.

yeah imo youre just paying for the name when u buy a gibson. my epi les paul is miles better than any gibson les paul ive played. in fact gibsons build quality has been quite ropey recently. swapping out the pickups is one of the best mods you can make to a guitar  :proud:

Well my Geeeeetarrrr arrived today!!  :gimme:

After about twenty minutes of messing around I just about managed to get chords "A" & "D" down again, I must be getting old though, I'm sure it never made my fingers hurt this much when I was seventeen!!  >_<

Ahh an SG Special! Used to have one of those a while ago, I loved the neck on it.  Infact, all Epi necks are great.
Changed the bridge pup for Duncan Distortion then part-ex'd it for a BCR Exotic Mock..

I'd have another SG in a heartbeat, but I can't get on with the neck dive they suffer from, although relocating the strap button to the top horn helps apparently.

However, they're pretty comfortable to plonk on your lap and play.

I obviously haven't been using my wrist regularly enough these past 50 years O_O The twist on my left hand is agonising when I stop.

Do you warm up/stretch before playing?  This helps a lot.

One time I didn't, it was before a gig and it felt like my fretting hand seized up, I had to drone out chords for the last few songs.  Lesson learnt!

Well I can just about manage the "E" chord as well now, which of course means that all have is a black guitar, three chords, and the truth!
