The only advantage with a hydraulic handbrake is that it makes it easier to handbrake turn, especially on dry tarmac, when driving in competition.

With some simple valves it should be possible to incorporate a hydraulic handbrake into the existing system, for handbrake turns, while retaining the cable operated handbrake for road use. It would have to feed in downstream of the PRV, and use the same reservoir as the main system, so that all fluid eventually gets returned to the same place. It would need a shuttle valve, so that the highest pressure source at any time would take over and isolate the other system to prevent various problems.

I had thought about a hyd. handbrake on he 'S' but they were subsequently not allowed for historic rallying as they were not period modifications. The original 'S's didn't do so bad without either. I subsequently modified the handbrake linkage to improve it a bit. On gravel or in the wet it's fine. It's on dry tarmac with close pattern tyres that there can be a problem when handbrake turning.
