Hi there! My name is Leanne, and I have a rover 1990 with a 998cc engine with a stage one kit.
But my problem ( if u guys can help) is with the knocking at the front of the car. Every time I drive the car abit or go down hill I hear a knocking in the front of the car. I have had this previously before on the car but got all my front-end re-done, new ball joints both sides, new bearings, new cv joint on driver side and New gators. Previously it was the Bearing on the passenger side which failed and I had a new flange and stress washer put on. But after all this there still is a very loud knocking, can any of u help.
Many thank Leanne.

Without seeing and driving the car it is very difficult to do any sort of diagnosis.

The home tune guy did say it was missing a engine steady bush. Thanks.

hard to tell could be number of things.

1) When stationary in neutral and rev the engine does the front end move, if so may be engine steady top or bottom.

2) Could be one of the subframe mounts.

3) suspension mounts perhaps?

I'm having a similar issue to this. When stationary I can rev the engine and everything sounds fine. No "rattle" as I've been calling it. Changed ball joints and inspected inner and outer CV's, all seemed well. Still rattling. Back on the lift, inspected front subframe to find it cracked at the top of the right tower. Turns out, THE WHOLE TOP OF MY FRONT SUBFRAME WAS MOVING, hence the rattle only when moving. Removing the motor and subframe soon to repair or replace.

In short, check the tower tops on the subframe.

engine steady seems a good place start considering 2nd reply they mention hometune guy had said a bush was missing.

is it a knock knock knock or just a knock when you go on and off the accelarator
