As my mini gets closer to put on the road I've started to consider security options. Can anyone recommend whats best for the mini?

Chain it to a fence or post or something, nice thick chain that theyll have to saw through, slow them down :)

I think something along the lines of the Norwegian Polar Bear Trap.. Stick your head in and it gets blown off with a rifle

I know how it sounds, but rust is the best security device I've never had....

+1 for the Discklok.  You can get cheap trackers from the likes of ebay too that text a location (google maps) to you should it end up going.  That's next on my list of things to get for Mabel.

Baby monitor as mentioned above is dirt cheap and brilliant. Removeable steering wheel stops joy riding idiots. keeping out of sight helps massively. I am not a massive fan of electronic immobilisers as they have a habit of going wrong when its worst for you but I do have a few tricks wired in, just have a think and look at a wiring diagram and it's not hard to work out what to do.

They are easy to get off, especially if the gearknob uncrews! One of the steering wheel type is better.

Someone suggested buying a very cheap mobile phone and hiding it in the car with it switched on so that the SIM card can be tracked.

Would agree that they look easy to get off.  Would put of someone casually looking for something to take but not someone targeting your car in particular.  I would go for the steering wheel lock over that.  More money in the short term but much more substantial.   You see them on ebay all the time - I'd just make sure you get all the keys and don't have it delivered to an address the mini is kept if you can help it.

The problem with that is unless you get a contract then they shut off unused PAYG sims very quickly. A cheap eBay tracker is probably as cheap to buy but I haven't used one so don't know how good they are.
