go and get it asap mate! 3 months is ridiculous, and even if that WAS a reasonable amount of time, the way he is treating your mini is unacceptable... theres no way i would let this guy touch my mini as his work is bound to be half-arsed. get it out of there before he starts working on it... +1 for naming and shaming by the way

And I wouldn't worry about it being an awkward situation when you collect, as I think they will secretly be happy to see it go ! ( that's not a dig at your car by the way

If he's already damaged your seats by putting the sump guard on them, I don't think I would let him touch it any further.
I'd go and bring it home ready to take it somewhere that's a bit more sympathetic.

GET IT BACK!!!!!!!!
Take a mate who is seven foot tall and built of solid muscle and also knows a bit about Minis, just in case things get awkward. If it's been standing all that time it might not start so be prepared to tow or trailer it away starightaway. Someone from the Sheffield Mini Club perhaps?
Don't forget to tell the 'so called mechanic' you will want compensation for damage, starting with the seat scratches and also time and inconvenience for being without a car for three months - be assertive and firm. Don't give him a time to finish, he's had plenty. There are plenty of people/garages who would do it for you in a reasonable time. Let him see you taking photos of the car in the bush, the seats etc so he can see you mean business.
You know what you want to do - just effing do it. (I don't swear as a rule, but these people make me so angry when they try to take advantage of a young bloke and there is a Mini involved).
Afterwards buy your 'mate who is seven foot tall and built of solid muscle and also knows a bit about Minis' a pint afterwards.

GET IT OUT! What you waiting for? Realistically there is nothing stopping you, he can't stop you. Your property and you are entitled to do whatever you want. I would ring trading standards for a tad of advice purely so you have some jargon to back up why you are taking it. If every job that comes in is getting priority over yours what has been there 3 months, you could be waiting years at this rate. End of the day its not very professional of him if he can't be honest. He should just admit if he doesn't want to do it or is too busy or he is a complete moron... that way you can find someone who will do it for you but the longer he keeps it, I fear the more problems or issues its going to get. Swimming pool in the footwell, ruined seats. I would do take pics as leverage, even ask for compo for being without a car, for the seats, any other problems...

Give an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters and they'll eventually produce the complete works of Shakespeare!
Once they're done give them your gearbox as you're likely to get it done quicker than waiting for this Muppet!

I would get the car back asap and put it down to a bad experience, then name and shame on here under the reviews sections to warn other locals of his shortfall as a responsible reliable mechanic.
I feel the guy at the garage will just laugh at your requests for compo for the damage, unless you have pics of the car just before it went in and you can prove that the damage was caused through neglect. Its going to be your word against his.
sorry to be on a downer as i would love you to get something back from the bad experience but feel it is unlikely.
all the best with the collection
Steve
