Hi All,

I now have a 1275 metro engine and box, in bits in my garage :- Going to be getting that DVD from Minifilms and making a 1380 for my little beast. Just a couple of questions;

What sort of 0 - 60 and 1/4 mile times do you get out of them (around 100bhp/;lb/ft) ?

What sort of mpg do you get !?

Am I better off keeping my 12x5's wheels or going bigger to 13's or maybe slightly wider 12x6's ?

Will the standard 8.4" discs and calipers be ok at this power level or should i go for the 4 pots from Kad or Minisports ?

Thanks

Jimmy

Standard 4 pots will be fine. More power does not necessitate bigger brakes, only an increase in speed or mass does.

Wheel size is more a matter of preference for handling. If you want handling, get 10s.

Acceleration times all depend on the spec of the engine, there are so many other factors than just the capacity of the engine.

I thought the std brakes where 2 pots ?

I see, could anyone give an indication based on their setup ?

Sorry, yea, meant 2 pots. Just make sure you have a decent set of discs and pads (prefer Mintex but others like EBC Greens (should be blacks for fast road)).

Most engines putting out about 100bhp (which is what you should be looking at for a decently modified 1380) should be capable of a 0-60 of between 6-7 seconds. I think the 1/4 mile would be high 15s?? Maybe someone else can comment on that, I don't really look at 1/4s too much.

Cool, thanks jammy :D

I'd like her to be low 6's on the 0-60 run and mid 14's on the 1/4 mile :D

Cant wait to get hold of the DVD, then I can spec up the engine :D

0-60 of low 6's is very optimistic. you're looking at mid 8's in my opinion

I'd say low 6s is possible with a 1380, but that would be a real modified beast, I would of been disappointed if my 1425 hadn't of been in the low 6s.

I think mid 14s is optomistic though, depending on the FD.

I am aiming for around a 7 second 0-60 with my 1380, but that is fairly high spec (I am hoping for around 120 BHP).

The main thing with building/speccing an engine and gearbox is how you want to drive it. If you are on the motorways and A roads all the time, go for a long FD ratio. If you are only ever driving it around lanes or just driving it for fun, go for a low FD ratio. Obviously there is a compromise for everyone.

Never tested it. I never bothered finding out the figures that can be banded around a pub, the thrill was in the driving. :D

Im nitrousing my 1380. I don't want it going like a rocket all the time but having the option of occasional 25bhp increase at the flick of a switch would be advantagous for overtaking/ motorways/ driveby's/ bank jobs etc! :D

Mmmm nitrous :D Think I would be too scared to use it on an engine I built myself ! lol

Can anyone recommend a good book that goes through things like FD ratios, cams, engine building etc ?

Ordered the DVD from mni films today, cant wait till it comes through !

Has anyone had any engineering work done at slark ? There is a local company that I could take the block too for the work but am thinking it would be better to take it to a mini specialist like them, they are only a 30 minute drive away as well. Like the look of their heads too !

my car was running a 15.7 second 1/4 with a 0-60 of 7 seconds last year. that was with 120hp & 140lb/ft on a 3.44 diff....

i'd say you're looking at 16s 1/4 and mid 8's on the 0-60 personally with 100hp. (dependant on diff obviously)
