I think the long and short if it is... while people insist on using the original case design for more than 4 gears, then it's going to be a compromise on the strength of the unit, as the case is not designed to carry load bearing gears on the speedo side of the mainshaft...

At least the KAD 5 speed retains the gearset in the area the gears are designed to be...

The solution is design a new case, with a new gearset, and I'd be surprised if anyone is going to invest that kind of money into a legacy unit.

Exactly, the speedo side of the case has no real supportive structure to it, especially as the only support on the far end is from a removable end plate!

I'm amased no one has recast the gearbox casing to suit a whole new gear setup. New heads are being cast all the time with various port designs.

I was fed up of munching layshafts with my box, so decided to try something different. The kad box looks like a nice piece of kit.

Yes agree doubt if anyone will do a complete recast, so we have what we have.

As for the JK box we had no issues, just shame we cannot get a rebuild kit, as eventually everything wears especially under serve racing conditions, had this box since 1998. Running 245x13" slicks and big horse power.
So as far as internal design, looks all ok to me.
