The white and brown wires were already connected together and i've never had this trouble before...

 

The only thing i did notice was that the purple/violet coloured wire had actually corroded off the old spade on the fuse box...

Have you got a multimeter, or even a test lamp? Check that ALL wires are disconnected from the fuse box and that ONLY the brown wires, no others, have battery voltage on them. Also, check that the in-line fuses have not been paired up wrongly.

Oh, and if the white and brown wires were already connected, they probably were not actually making contact due to corrosion, as otherwsie you would always have had the problem. The purpose of the ignition switch, when on, is to connect the brown and white, which othereise are always seperate.

You need to refer to Haynes to confirm the colours of wires on each terminal. However, I can tell you that both browns need to be opposite the purple, and the white opposite the green, so the upper brown is the one that is wrong.

So where should i put the top brown wire and the white wire on the fuse box??

ITS WORKED! 

 

I just took off that top brown wire and connect the white wire only to the top of the fuse box and it works like normal now!

What have you done with the spare brown? 

 

 

It probably belongs on the same side of the same fuse as another brown, opposite the purple wires.

As above... the wire needs to go somewhere.  It is time to buy a service manual for your car if you don't already have one.  Refer to its wiring diagram and figure out what's going on with the fuse box wiring.

I've just changed the fuse box on my mini ...

 

Based on what I recently saw on the MM message board, new fuse blocks for sale on eBay, and your comments.... I have a question.

 

Your first post says this is a new fuse block.  Look on the BACK of your NEW fuse block then look on the back of your OLD fuse block.  Look at Kernow's picture above taking note of the terminal numbers.  Are the NEW fuse block terminals 1 & 3 connected on the back?  Are they connected on the back of the OLD fuse block?

The brown wire that i left off was for my lights, either that or it was coincidence that they worked once i had put the brown wire onto the fuse box..

That sounds right, I knew there is one supply (brown) that is taken from the fusebox off another brown.
