hi guys again iv been looking into a hydraulic hand brake for my mini as the cable one is really poor lol i found all the stuff i think i need but im worried that if i plum it strait into the back brake lines with anther t-piece will it work or will it want to lock the front wheels up to ? i dont want to end up fitting one and finding out the hard way and crashing :/ or should i just stripp down all my rear brake and by some rally shoes, and just run a flyoff hand brake to make it u-turn better ?

help would be great thanks ben

Does the car need to be road legal mate?

Also, are the rears properly adjusted and handbrake quadrants free and lubricated?

Do you need the car to be road legal and pass an MOT?

Leave the cable operated one in for the Mot
Plumb in a cylinder inline to the rear brake feed and put in next to the gearlever or original handbrake n jobs a goodin'

Google it possibilities are endless

So what you're saying is that your car doesn’t legally meet the minimum road legal parameters?

The mini handbrake isn't that bad, the one in my Dolomite is worse, you can drive with that on even when its fully adjusted.

A properly adjusted handbrake on any of my minis has always been fine, I don’t see why you'd want all the arseing around trying to fit a hydraulic one.

And him and his mate could go to prison if someone is killed or injured!

The point is hydraulic handbrakes aren't legal in a road car. If you want to go hydraulic then don't bother registering it. If you have a line locker/hydraulic handbrake and cable handbrake side by side it still won't be legal if the cable handbrake doesn't work.

If you're mate passes you then good luck. You get caught you and your mate will go down.

grandad racers have been hand brake turning minis since they were boy racers

i'm guessing if yours isn't working there must be something wrong in the system

I generally find mini handbrakes good, enough to do a handbrake parallel park ;)

A quick stab of the brakes as you pull the hand break helps lock the wheels..

I need to perfect my handbrake turns then! only seem to manage it on gravel and thats no good, the ladiez dont like going on gravel only car parks and that is the point of a handbrake turn is it not ? ;)

as above really, the mini handbrake is actually quite good if in good service so just work your way through the system, check and adjust anything that looks iffy and make sure your back brakes are adjusted correctly while you are there and it should pass no issues

I am pretty sure you can get a fly off handbrake kit from minispares incidentally if you wanted that for "rallying"
