my dad took this pic, he is quite into woodwork and i think he admired the arches!

This was exactly the car I thought of when I started reading this thread. It was beautifully done and I always wondered what happened to it.

I think I have some pictures of it out in the sun hidden somewhere in the loft.

For old photos from the 1979 Mini 20th show (my first attended), check out this old TMF thread:-

Sorry to quote myself but for anybody that might be interested a bit of Googling suggests the above car is an M-Tech Countryman Sport.

The below photo is on their website:

It was in Mini Mag. It was built by a guy, I seem to remember for his wife, who wanted to see what it would be like if the factory were still making the estate in the late '90s. M Tech may have worked on it for him but it's not really their product or model, it's a one off. He called it a Countryman Sport because of the custom made Sportspack wood kit that I think was done by his dad!

Good info thank you. M-Tech must have liked the idea as they seem to sell the conversion including the arches as a standalone model now.

Blimey some of those pics are bringing back memories! We had our first mini (an 86 Mayfair) in 1998 then had a few other minis ending with an MPI in about 2003, we did all the shows back then and that sportspack countryman was a favourite of mine too, cracking car!

My brother had a reshelled MK1 NVS 991 in Kawasaki orange with a silver roof, metro dash and MG metro engine, he was the pioneer of checquerplate door cards back then, within months they were everywhere! anyone seen that about since?

I absolutely love this :) it's an amazing design. Like someone has already said, the mini shows back then look a shed load better than nowadays.

I've just found a poster of this car that came with mini world mag.

My memory of the mag review was that it was always an mtech countryman sport. Great in the flesh too.

yes i remember that orange mini, and i remember the dash and the alloy door cards very well too, it was a great colour that orange! i saw it at himley around 98 i think?

i tried to copy the metro dash thing, but it just didnt happen! i wanted a cool dash in my black clubman estate, in the end i made one from scratch out of fibreglass.
