the early ones dont look that bad but surely people cant like the countryman the new one and that stupid thing that looks like its been rolled in a car accident

that seems to be the fashion. Have you seen the latest fiat 500 seven seater? I was nearly sick the first time I saw it.

Yeah saw it france about 3 years ago and hoped it was a joke unfortunately at work the hire car company has just bought about 25 of them so I see them everyday without fail its horrible

The launch of the MINI Countryman might have upset Mini and MINI purists but the 250,000th MINI Countryman rolled off the assembly line recently, just two-and-a-half years after sales began, which is why Fiat have also just launched larger versions of the Fiat 500 with more to come. Both brands want to hold on to the customers who used to trade up away from their range when they needed more space for growing families, etc. They also need to sell greater volumes of cars based on one common platform to stay in business in the current very competitive world car markets. When the classic Mini and original Fiat 500 were at their sales peaks there was much less choice and competition from overseas manufacturers of small cars from outside Western Europe.

The new 'big' Fiat 500 :ohno:

Below is the original 'big' Fiat from 1950/60's......nothing is new

Ugly is new, the originals are gorgeous. There was one as a taxi at this years revival, most popular by far from what I saw.

Very true, but I think that is what the new big500 is emulating and I think that is what Mab was getting at.

when the "new mini" was launched i felt like most mini owners do now "thats not a real mini" etc etc but i just dont care at all now.

the way i see it, they dont make the original mini anymore, and they havnt for years, so why does it matter that there is now a car being made that does say MINI on it?

about the bigger fiat 500 thing, fiat havnt made a decent looking car other than the "new" 500 for YEARS!, so i dont see why anyone would expect them to make a good looking one now, at least this new big 500 thing isnt as ugly as the multipla!

going back to the new MINI, i agree the 4x4 thing isnt pretty, and the squashed roof one looks stupid, but i have had a drive in a few mini cooper S's both supercharged early ones and the later turbo'd variety and they are just brilliant to drive, and my god do they go too, and that you just cant knock!

not long after they were launched my brother was invited to take one round rockingham, and his words were "these things are light years ahead of the **** we have been driving!" and that is from a fellow hardened, classic mini owner and driver!

Not sure why there's no sound, saw this on TV the other day and thought I'd post it for the people who haven't seen it  ^_^

It's been posted a couple of times :-)  http://www.theminifo...le-mini-advert/ and http://www.theminifo...w-mini-advert/,

I've also seen it on TV, although I first saw it on Facebook.  I've never accidently caught the MG3 ad on TV, although helpfully the MG Facebook page did post the times that it would be screened, but sadly I think this because it was so infrequent.  On the plus side, I saw my first MG3 'in the wild' today!   :D

Haters gonna hate, but I ask,... If Rover were able to make a decent car and keep their name alive, would the haters of the MINI hate it as much if Rover made it?

If you read the interview with Frank Stephenson, the Original R50 MINI designer, in this issue of love:mini you will get a better understanding of where they were coming from at the time. He also comments about how BMW have developed the brand since his design.
