Haters gonna hate, but I ask,... If Rover were able to make a decent car and keep their name alive, would the haters of the MINI hate it as much if Rover made it?

do you not remember the great battle of the mpis not being proper minis many a bans happened then, sad times

I do :ohno: ......in the early 1990's when the 'Rover Mini Cooper' had just been re-introduced if you turned up at a Mini Show like Beaulieu in a new Rover Cooper, many original Mk1/2/3 Cooper owners made it quite clear you were not welcome and called them 'plastic' Rover imitations of the 'real' Mini Cooper even though John Cooper was deeply involved in their re-introduction. As with the New MINI today they would usually say John Cooper just sold out to make more money   ......some got even more upset when the Rover Coopers were entered into concours, especially when many were still almost brand new and rust free or had only just left a Rover showroom the week before! :D

At this time the Mini Cooper Register (of which I was and still am a member) nearly tore itself apart over the new Rover Cooper and eventually the club membership was asked to vote on allowing in the Rover owners.....much to the dismay of some the vote was yes......it all seems silly today but there are still a few 'die-hards' who look down on any Mini Cooper made afer 1971...........not to mention those that dismiss any Mini or Cooper made after 1969 without sliding windows!

I like the new Minis, but I just don't see them as a Mini. To me its just another small car, no different to a KA or 107.

There isn't anything unique about them. A very good car, but nothing different to the competition.

I did have a chuckle to myself yesterday though when I drove past a broken down MINI whilst in my old "unreliable" Mini.

Very clever advert, well made and does the job well.  I like it.  hate the new F56 as its a bad looking car (R53/R56 looked good to me and would happily own one)

The problem for the MINI is it is just like any other modern hatchback. But every modern hatchback owes everything to the Mini. All modern hatchbacks are transverse engined front wheel driven. Only the MINI can claim the continuity with concept, company, its engineers and one of its original factories. The MINI is the best looking and much of that is to do with the attempt to follow through the original design. The FIAT 500 is a serious rival by the same designer but it has none of its own original engineering concept. It too has adopted the Mini formula.

Love the trash on here !!!

Here it is a own a 2012 mini countryman copped d white / black
Also own a 85 city e in yukon grey black roof

I love both for different reasons the big 1 is for my family and the little 1 is my toy for me

I love my minis and will never change either of them

I understand the not a real mini but would we all take our family's to France in a classic with our kids in the back ???

Just my opinion

Thats not fiat 500, thats a 600 multipla.

Very true, but I think that is what the new big500 is emulating and I think that is what Mab was getting at.

Fiat only wanted to copy the MINI Countryman as these kind of vehicles have some sort of fashion these days.

They have no clue of what motor heritage is, just think of what they've done to their museum in italy.

like i said the other day, i like MINI and i dont see the issue with them.

maybe i could understand it a little more if the two cars, mini and MINI were made at the same time for several years, and therefore was some rivalry between them.

I have already bought lots of new polish and rags to start detailing it and looking at a few modifications, I have never been bothered with any other car so I think they have some Mini magic in them :-)

i actually really like the new mini clubman. i've been in a new cooper s clubby and really want one  :shy: and we've just bought a new countryman.....

not bad cars at all and i wish people would stop immediately discarding them just because of the arrogance to move with the times. The mini has had to be dragged into the 21st century and the original shell design just wouldn't have been a practical base. The same thing happened with the beetle, 500, landrover, 3 series, 911 and more purely to meet demands of modern motoring.

rant over  =]

As much as I dislike some of the new minis, cooper-s aside!, I'm pleased it's still going strong as a brand as it's allowing a British icon to live on, just in a slightly different form!

It's blasphemy!!!! However no one can deny Bmws success and branding it's insane. Every new mini owner must deep down have love for the old one which is a testament on its own..i think there better than most hot hatches..downside they're soulless can't say I've got in one and its put a smile on my face like a proper one does. That's what I love the smile

Old original for me please :)
