Don't buy the budget Clarke one. My one ate its own innards after 13 months. I bought one of their "contractors" ones and it's a big brutal yellow beast in comparison.

I have the yellow one also, it feels really strong, only because it weights a tonne

that's the beauty of the makita, well made but small and light.

I killed the B&Q one within 5 minutes. I cut a paving slab and the motor burnt out.

I took it back for a refund.

I'm a big fan of good old Black and Decker at the budget end.Honest tools at a reasonable price and you can always get the bits if they break. That said,i've loads of various B n D tools and never broken any of them.Got a 650w angle grinder and it performs way above it's power and price.(about £30).

Seeing how much work i do with my B&Q ones they are worth the money. I have killed one in the past (i did thrash it to death in its defence) and i damaged a lead on another but the big one i bought in 2009 is still going strong.

First one I ever bought was a makita....only lasted 15 years, replaced it with two cheapys (jcb's if I remember correctly) both knackered after 6 months or so, bought another makita. lesson learned.

Had my Bosch one for a little over a year before it packed up.

Replaced it with a Makita in 2007 and it's still going strong.

My Bosch one is over 10 years old and still going strong and has done several full on resto's so LOTS of cutting and grinding!!!

When it does die, I will buy a Makita as they are really smooth....less vibration = less fatigue = better workmanship.  Also feel the Makitas are quieter (if a grinder can be quieter!!)

I have a mikita and had it for years and all I've had to do is a set of brushes and change the cord.
