Don't use a 1/2" as you will be at the nominal plug diameter and may damage the bore. 

Titanium coated 12mm drill bit on Amazon for £5-00. Next day delivery.

You won't need to reverse the drill, you will find that the remains of the plug just come out easily.

Oh, thread revival :-)

 

I have just removed the oil galery plugs on my MPI engine, they were like big rivets. I cant seem to be able to get them here in France. Can I go back to the brass push fit ones ? any other ideas ?
