Thanks for the help, I'll give pulse welding a go tomorrow.

Just remember to pause for 2-3 seconds between pulses and only do an inch or so at a time.

The best way would be to tack it round the edges. Then start beside one tack, do 2-3 pulses then do the same at the next tack and so on as this will allow the metal to cool without too much heat building up in any one area at a time

Hopefully this will last longer than the last one, always been using 0.6mm, so it cant have been that:

So I managed to weld it all in, in the end I just played dot to dot, I definitely went overkill, doesn't look the best but ill grind it down, and seam seal it:

It's going to take a bit longer than I would have hoped as I've come into some financial difficultys due to this.

oh dear. Easily done though.

I remember years ago going to look at a corsa that was for sale. The girl selling it bought it round to show me and right in front of me side swiped a gatepost and scraped all the side up.

I still bought it but just for a third of the asking price  :gimme:

So is that going to be a pricey repair on the Landy?

Yep, the panels are so expensive, and I've got to sort out the front of the chassis where the bumper bolts to it as one of the bumper bolts sheered but the other didn't and it has pulled out to the chassis by a cm, also had to buy new lights £150 later :( and I still need to buy a new bumper, also the metallic paint and painting will be expensive. I'm just glad it was only the defender that got damaged and not anything else as it could have been so much more expensive.

I've got a hard decision to make get a safety devises multi point car for just over £800 and fit myself in either red or black, or get a fully welded in custom cage for £2150 fitted and be able to have my preferred colour. Are the welded in ones really that much stronger than the welded in ones? It's only going be for fast road and track days.
So is worth having to get an extra grand loan of the parents or not? Hard choice.

So have now cut the panel to the rough shape:
452C5FC6-1058-4764-8BF0-6A9B1483ECD6_zps
Then got bored of cutting so moved meight next to Rosie for there first picture together:
CBE1D546-7032-4848-A02A-23F9044F78BF_zps

Also if all goes to plan I shall be picking up a metro turbo engine and parts on the weekend so I needed to make some room for the engine, so I took my last engine I bought that ended up having a cracked block and split it in half:

410AD06D-3EED-4776-93A0-532E8D629309_zps
Quite difficult on my own:

806F7299-CA46-46AA-B45A-8031563AB488_zps
Everything other than the block is in really good condition:

And space for the new to me engine, ive got 3 engines now, I just hope this new engine will run well:
