I was considering using it in my MGB as it gets oild changes every three months whatever.

Bit over the top isn't it?    I gave my 1 year old 900 mile oil & sparks to a friend to re-use recently....
Can never be over the top, I bet it comes out black even after 3 months.
not wrong there mate! But does get a lot better after a couple of years of that regime.

I dont see why people even consider lesser oils when you can get the best very cheaply! Valvoline VR1 - haven't heard a bad thing said about it and it is available from ebay for around £24 posted - I was recommended it by many people far more knowledgeable on the subject than I, its all I will buy from now on.

It's not just a question of the pressure, it's also the quality of the actual lubrication and, especially for a Mini, the ZDDP level.

What simply amazes me is the fact that we are running valuable and appreciating classic cars, but this is a thread about really cheap oil, despite the fact that the oil is the lifeblood of the engine. We are talking about a difference of, at most, £15 per oil change. Is it worth risking high engine and/or gearbox wear to save this amount every 2000 to 3000 miles? That's about 0.5 p per mile.

In this, as in much of life, you get what you pay for.

Comma Classic (Halfords etc.) has a ZDDP level of 800 ppm, Vlavoline VR1 (and I believe Comma Sonic) has 1200-1500 ppm.

A flat tappet engine such as the A Series requires 1200 ppm.

They are the simple facts of the matter, and all that needs to be said.

Ideal as a running in oil!

That,s what i used to run my 1380 in and it does not seem to have caused any problems ( as yet ) but, i changed it after 100 miles or so for Millers CTV 20/50.
