I don't know much about beetles but I do know they *******in fly up a strip in the right hands, I went to the Warwickshire county strip a few years ago, if your mate can get even half the power some of them did you will need 400 bhp! Imprezas running 700+ bhp were being left for dead!

Beetles have traction, as said

Also, I don't suppose they are much heavier than a mini? And whatever you do to lose weight he can do too!

I'm off to google!

Approx 750kg!!!

I haven't been to any for a while (don't know if they are atill going?) but the beetle v mini runs usually came out in favour of the minis. That said there is stupid money in vw circles now so it may have changed.

Perhaps a more logical way to look at it would be to ask your mate what sort of 1/4 mile time he is looking to achieve and then spec your car to better that.

I agree, check out beetle drag racers, as much as I love my Minis they are in another league 200BHP wouldn't even be worth bothering with!

but if he has half a brain he will sandbag, I know I would. Yes mate, anything under 15 seconds and I will be happy, cough. Third rule of Motorsport - your competitors always lie ( 1st rule - never race on your town money, 2nd rule - NEVER RACE ON YOUR OWN MONEY, as told to me by one of Lola's chief engineers a few years ago)

Brake horse figure is not what to look at... Look at power to weight ratio....

Take all in required bits off and don't go the burger van at lunch time.. Salads for you, let the rabbits will go hungry..

That and the fact beetles are heavy shells..

Poly carb windows
Fibreglass doors.
Drilled engine bits(bell housing, etc)
Carbon roof.
Give it a think see if it's going to happen... On the other side...her bike needs to actually get to the golden 200 brake...

My z.car did 0-60 in 4.5 secs quarter mile in 12secs.... And that's a bike engine...

Yeh but he's using a VW so only got quarter of a brain to start with anyway...ha ha.  He's more likely to BS the other way rather than sandbag...i'm familiar with the VW 'scene' and ther is a fair bit of BS that floats around....but you do make a fair point......ish. :proud:

Thats my mates vw and various other things... youll not get a mini keeping up with that beast... last i heard he was upto 2750cc in its original engine cases but heavily machined out... hes just in the middle of a rebuild and having it fuel injected... hes spent crazy money on it

Cheers james

doesn't matter if I win by an inch or a mile winnings winning

Just don't use a double shot of Nos, else you'll fry the rings and have danger to manifold, then your floor'll fall off, :D

Could you not make a requirement that only a certain amount has to be spent..

Like top gear do sometimes.. That would be a hoot...

He's already spent about 12k on engine, box and race axles plus how ever much the new rebuild and turbo/efi which will be about another 4-5k. I'm happy to spend the money on a quality set up but not that sort of money
