I know that when I was younger we had a Montego. I don't really remember a great deal about it. I also remember that my aunt had a Maestro. I always preferred that and preferred going in that than our car.

There is a Maestro in a garage not too far from where I work. I did make enquiries but apparently its not for sale. Needs a little tidying up though.

You know it went back in to production, in a fashion. The Chinese who bought the plant were knocking out Maestro vans, with extra seat and a Monty front end for a while.

Still some Monty DNA evident here

I had an mg turbo. 150bhp. Fast car in its day xr3i eater a bit unsteady at speed but looked great at the time. Big SU single carb not injected like the efi but loads of fun at traffic lights.

One of my children spotted it. They also spotted a Maestro in the Peodophile Hunter.

maestro turbo

0.60mph in 6.9 sseconds    back in 1989!!!!!!!!!!!!!

still fast even today

Yes but it would only do it once! The factory wound the turbo up to max on the press cars to get that figure for good PR,Motor magazine blew up the first one they had doing their speed tests and had to use a second car to complete the testing.Real world time was about 8 secs, still respectable tho'.

The actual time was 6.7 seconds and no offence but my montego used to hit 7 seconds through the timing light before I bought it.

The maestro being smaller was also slighlty faster and the efi was 8.5 seconds to 60 so would have been pointless running 2 cars with nigh on identical figures.

Ive had both the montego efi and turbo and the efi was brisk the turbo was very quick

If there are any Montego fans at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC this Saturday, please come to the Maestro & Montego Owners Club stand in Hall 12 at 11.00am as Russ Swift will be on the stand to cut Montego's 30th Birthday cake.  He's great and always enjoys chatting to the public, so come and say hello.

Twenty or so years ago I had a vauxhall astra and 4 days before going on our annual holiday which was to the Isle of Wight some little s***s stole the car. Anyway, as we were only a few days away from the hols I had to get another car and with money been tight I purchased a montego. Hand on heart I can honestly say it was the worst car I have ever brought. Drank fuel, hard to start and lacked power and when I say lack power I mean just that. There's one particular hill which is quite steep by Shanklin, I had the accelerator on the floor and people were walking pass us, seriously it true!!!! Not funny at the time but I do laugh about it now.

While I was at Avonbar, (late 80's to mid 90's), the boss had a Montego Turbo. We did a lot of work on it, modified head, more boost, bigger brakes, uprated suspension, Revolution RFX wheels. Had just over 200hp. Havn't got any pics of it but have a couple of customers cars.

Montego couldn't have had a better 30th Birthday year.  Having Nicolette McKenzie with us in April at Cowley and then Russ Swift at the NEC celebrations - what could be better!  Well, I tell you what, Russ coming to the M&MOC's stand to cut our cake and telling us that he's only gone and bought a Montego!  Yes, Russ has joined the ranks of the Montego ownership!  And it just gets better.  Russ and his wife are keen to recreate the Montego advert - how fantastic would that be!  My mission to make Montegos cool and desirable is certainly heading in the right direction!

We were also very lucky to be joined by Denis Chick who was instrumental in Montego's launch.

Russ gave this interview - http://www.aronline....talks-aronline/

Here's the Montego photo highlights from the NEC  :-)  Sorry for the awful quality of the pics, but the lightening is terrible :(

Three committee members dressed as Tetris pieces, and inadvertently spelling the word 'oil'!  Tetris turned 30 this year, as did Montego.  Tetris is bold and bright, so useful to try and help the M&MOC stand, stand out a little.

I got dragged in to do the Motormind Quiz for the club.  I know I wasn't asked for my knowledge (I can only do BLARG!), but for my entertainment value.  I managed to get one question out of the 12 correct, but did say Maestro & Montego lots of times and direct everyone to our stand.  Quentin didn't stand much of a chance with me, but we had a laugh and the organiser asked me to do it the following day if they were short of people as I lightened up the quiz.  A sort of compliment I guess!

A couple of serving Police Officers dropped by and gave us this photo.  They have plenty more in their achieve which they are going to pass on to the club  :-)
