Bit of a thread revival but has any one found a solution?

I just had a look under the project car and the knuckle joint rubbers have cracked to the point where they need to be replaced.
They have been fitted for under a year on a car that's been on axle stands the whole time :(

Haven't seen any complaints in a while. I suppose all we can do is buy from reputable suppliers that have a proven after sales reputation.

It'd be good to hear some feedback from fellow TMFers though, good or bad, it's what the forum's  for.

The rear light rubber surrounds didn’t fit my cooper very well. They were also very stiff.

Fuel filler rubber. Fitted and cracked in the time since fitting it. Top arm rubber seals same things. And top arm rubber stopper that goes underneath

It'd be useful to know when 'n where these crumbly bit were bought 'n how long they lasted too.

I don't think top arm rebound rubbers were ever up to the job really.

Yes the fuel filler rubber also cracked and perished within a few weeks too.

I bought my rubbers within the last few months.

I'm surprised that the mini spares rep on the TMF has not made a comment on the subject. If there is one I can't find it.

Haven't seen any complaints in a while.

The poor rubbers are still very much out there, I just guess it's just become one of those common knowledge things.

All mine were bought from minispares. All genuine parts. Like Moke Spider said I bought them knowing this would happen. In the future if and when parts from Japan made locally become available I will swap out to those.

Same here. Fitted a RH tank and so ordered the rubber fuel filler from MS at the same time....within a short few months it's all perished and cracked. The original on the LH side is looks way newer than the part from MS.

It's not confined to Minis .. I've had modern car parts where the rubbers lasted months .. and in one case a drop-link joint cover that cracked after 2 weeks!!

It's the rubber ..

the chemicals used have been changed to suit the environmentalists and now it isn't as pliable or long-lasting ..

and so most parts all end up coming from the countries where environmental controls are more lax (or ignored!)

I've got some rubber balljoint covers on a 61 year old Austin that are in better nick than a 2002 Peugeot!

Its the rubber!I tire of hearing this.Manufacturers can do it and their parts are not made in shacks. If you are making something why cannot you make it correctly. The reason is possibly we do not complain correctly. My engineer brother said you could sell recon engines boxes and axles by just painting them as most restorers would never end up fitting or running them,he was only just joking.
The other problem is say you produce excellent quality and add say 50%.shortly all the tat suppliers will match your price. You do not always get better by paying more.Just my classic car experience.Steve..
