What the hell hit you?
A Ford Cortina !!!! It was 16 years ago !!!
Basically on a right hand bend ended up sideways on the wrong side of the road and BANG !
I can't remember a thing about it (or the next 8 days for that matter) but the Police found a boulder on my side of the road and put that down as the probable cause.....they could not work out any other way I could have ended up where I did on a right hand bend !
Was a waste of a very nice Mini as well that I had just dropped a new engine into !!!!!
And I still happily drive one today......am I mad ???

I'll take a look at the sites/offers you've suggested.....
I think Dan makes some excellent points but seen as your post is followed up by some pictures of a 'mini' mini I don't think I'll be directing my missus towards the post.....
As far as being p*ssy whipped goes.....it comes to us all at some point...I'm a simple creature who accepts a simple life for simple rewards....The married men amongst you will understand....

Cheers again,
FG.

a cage is one part of an entire safety system - just fitting a cage brings in a lot more metal that heads and bones can bounce off...

Totally agree with Dan.

The cars already got three point harnesses and buckets and she says i've got a thick skull so that should keep her happy.....

Having said that, I don't see a real problem with using cages on the road, as long as you take into account what has been said in this topic.
NB:
I got told the other day that they have removed the word agreeance from the English dictionary, apparently it isn't used anymore!

.... How strong really is the Mini shell? Obviously by Grayedouts painful example, they can hold up pretty well, but you have to consider that the Mini was designed in the day when how many flower-power-children you could get in the car was more important that the integrity of the shell. Certainly if the Metro is anything to go by (with a 1 rating in the Euro-ncap crash tests) then I doubt it lives up to modern standards.
The next thing is of course the validity of adding the cage. We can all agree that a cage would add rigidity, the question is, is it in the right areas? A stiffer shell is not always a better shell afterall (the words "crumple zone" seem very applicable here).
Then there is the question of interior safety. a load of CDS steel bars running close you your legs, arms, back and head doesn't sound to me like the safest thng in the world!
I suppose what i'm waffling around, is that there is no real data that i've seen that proves adding a cage is better or worse for occupant safety. If anyone's got any I'd love to see it.

See above pics and be glad you weren't getting a lift off him at the time .......
Could be wrong but i reckon a cage would've been appreciated.
P.S. The old 'a boulder just ran into the road' excuse ehhh....some people will tell the coppers anyting

i have to say i really do recomend safety devices cages, my one saved my life. and i have bought a full cage for my latest car. the fit is good and build quality is also of a good standard( they should be there fia approved)
the only bad thing about sd cages is the price. and the fact that there now built abroad! id also say buy some proper roll cage padding from one of the manufactures not just cheap insulating foam styled stuff!
oh and there no substitute for safe driving. lol
this picture shows that the crushing of the roof stops where the cage starts!
