Just a quick copy and paste of one of the many convo's about the car with a random mini person

Its the Avonbar zx prototype

I just bought it, it was heading for end of life on a grass track, could not see something like that get raced!

Ian and Jeff built it, the engine was or should be 1407, dry decked, LSD but with hardy spicer doughnut shafts

that should never be grass tracked!!!

oh, bit more spec'd up than I thought then, the seller of it knows nothing, sold it as a 1300 :(

don't worry it wont be! if I keep it ill do a full restore on it, otherwise ill sell it on to someone that will do a proper job of it!

Lol if it still has Avonbar engine, can tell by stamps in certain places, it's a piece of history, even been up gurston hill climb a few times, nearly beat my mk1 up wiscombe!

thanks for the info to, ill strip her down and see exactly whats in it, been off the road since 1998

also the Dvla confirmed the car tax last expired in 1997, would be a very short space of time to have it converted and then not to drive it again, it was untaxed until 2010 when it had a owner change then sorn until 2012 when it droped of the radar

Last two digits on an Avonbar engine number denotes year it was built.
The engine in pic is not dry decked.
ZXs were all built to the same spec. 1380, same cam, head, carb, manifolds, MG Metro air box. That is how Ian got Rover 'approval' and complied with emissions test.
Your car does seem to have an interesting history. If I bump into Ian of Jeff I'll ask them if they remember it.
If it was converted from new then it was prior to my arrival in June '87. As I stated in an earlier post ZXs were 'launched' in '89 in time for the Mini 30 celebrations. I remember the big discussions at tea breaks, sat in the back of the shop, deciding on what to call the conversion. Ian decided ZX and had the badges done.

Found some pics after a long search. Got others somewhere but they will take a lot longer to dig out.

Pics arn't great as I don't have a scanner, and have to take photos of photos to upload.

This was one of the first conversions on a new car in '88. It wasn't until '89 that they were called ZXs

I knew of 3 BAC M30's. Red, Blue and Green. We converted the red and blue one.  DVLA says that the red one G568 FHB is now green.
Only pic I have of Blue one is the interior

Should start a BAC thread but with not many cars (3?) there wouldn't be much to post.

It was raffled in 2009.
They say only 3 were built. Wonder if green one has supercharger still on it.

Been hunting again. The three Mini 30s that Avonbar had were reg numbers G731 ***, G60 ***, and G61 ***. Cant find any pics of number plates.

This is either G60 or G61 at Bromley Pagent of Motoring, probably in 1990.

Hi Adam6900,

You do know Ian Hargreaves is based in Guildford? In fact just round the road from me. I dropped in to talk to him about a mini for my son, which happen to be a mini 30, I didn't know about the ZX,oops!. He is a really nice person, so knowledgeable and willing to chat. Good luck with the prototype

Hi All, My Dad owns the M30 G568. Its very much green inside and out and Bernie Ecclestone was one of the previous owners. My Dad won the car in charity raffle as was mentioned above. We're a little surprised to see the number plate on a red car with red interior. Can anyone elaborate on this - the log book and all paperwork that came with it including an article in mini magazine have the car in green. Engine wise its not supercharged but it has the Avonbar engine.

BAC M30 on sale in USA:-

http://www.ebay.com/...=US_Cars_Trucks

"THE BAC M-30 was a limited edition of Mini Thirty Special Edition. BAC was based in North Perrott, Somerset. The interior was luxuriously trimmed - all leather and walnut veneer, while the exterior 'improved' by the addition of a KAT Designs bodykit. Motive power was provided by a 1275cc engine, mated to a Sprintex supercharger, to provide 115bhp. This propelled the car from rest to 60mph in 8.7s, and on to 111.6mph. The original asking price of the BAC M-30 was a staggering £30,000, later lowered to £23,390.

For that type of specialist Mini I would think 'Bonhams' who have sold several unusual classic Mini's for good prices in recent years. They are based in Oxford:-
