I think I'd put in a heavy duty metal loop, try an boat chandler or similar and a length of rope. Tie to mini, through loop down to something else and drive away slowly with one person in each car. It'll whistle up. Thunder bolts should hold it to the wall.
Thought about this option but our drive is tight and the road at the bottom of it even tighter and opposite is a dry stone wall that is properly on the slant so even a nudge will knock it over. So in short - this idea is great because it's cheap, but a no go due to how my drive is. The back wall is a stud into the utility so would be very funny winching that towards the car.....be worth it seeing the missus' face!!!!!

Where abouts in the country are you? I have a hand winch (like a tirfor) clogging up my garage. Would be perfect for you.
Shame as a Tirfor would be ideal. My old man lent me one last time I needed to lower a car (no brakes or steering) when i sold an old project, and they are great and can lift pretty much anything. Would be too heavy to post i suppose.

Ain't caravans and boats a bit lighter than a ton? And is that up a slope?
was up a gentle slope and over a small lip into garage, rated at 1700KG or go to some where like towsure.

I was about to suggest a block&tackle or a chain hoist. If something is rated at a 1ton dead-lift then it'll easily drag a car up a slope unless there's something other than weight actively trying to prevent it from moving (seized wheels or the like). We used a chain hoist a while back to drag a TVR with seized brakes out of the corner of a unit - no issues whatsoever.
Or ebay items
121433012602 - Hoist. OK pickup only and not local to you but it gives you an idea.
360935490308 - Brand new hand winch.
331264972306 - Higher capacity US item but with international shipping and customs services so you know the price up front (a shade under £50 today).
I much prefer straps to a wire rope on the hand winches - far easier to get them to coil nicely under tension and far less chance of a birds nest.

The force on the winch will depend on how quickly you pull the car. On the other hand, you could only pull it as hard as the motor will allow, so I wouldn't worry about snapped cables. How long is the hilly drive, you may have the option of doubling the cable with a pulley, or more, to reduce the load. The simplest solution would be to get some old mattresses or seat cushions, for padding, and push it with another vehicle.
The force is a simple vector: winching a 1 tonne car going up a 3 in 1 slope will have to overcome gravity acting on the "1" side of the triangle with the mechanical advantage of length of the hypotenuse (square root of the sum of the squares of 3 'n 1 =... sod it just say a bit over third of tonne - you've still got friction 'n acceleration to chuck in.

Would you push a 71 clubman with another car only seperated with a mattress!!!?

I would spend the £100 on the Mini, making it nice and reliable.............

Yes, I'm assuming you've pushed it with your hands or backside on a much smaller contact area.

Is there any reason it won't go up on the starter motor ?
It was a hypothetical question...my car isn't stuck on the road.
I rally, so if something major goes bang or I have a big accident then I need a way of hoisting the car up the drive and cannot rely on its own power...even if it did move on the starter.
