The simplest solution would be to get some old mattresses or seat cushions, for padding, and push it with another vehicle.

Would you push a 71 clubman with another car only seperated with a mattress!!!?

Yes, I'm assuming you've pushed it with your hands or backside on a much smaller contact area.

Yes on strong seams or convex areas that won't deform.

If you push a mini up a steep slope using another car, the force will be taken by the bumper seam and I guarantee it will deform under such methods.  And then there is the car pushing it...being modern and not broken, if the mattress was to slip then a plastic bumper would get quite badly damged from an oldschool metal effort.

Not great advice and I wanted suggestions on winch systems, not a Scraphead challenge method.

I would spend the £100 on the Mini, making it nice and reliable.............

I rally, so if something major goes bang or I have a big accident then I need a way of hoisting the car up the drive and cannot rely on its own power.

A long time ago I had one of these attached to my trailer...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321512661302

That managed to pull a mini van with 4 flat tyres, two of which were not rotating from the bottom of a steep drive where it had been parked for at least 10 years....

but what I would also get is something like this as you'll be a long way from the winch...

Well that's me told  :ohno:

It need only be as scrapheap challenge as you make it. Fashioning a Mini pushing yoke will be no more effort, and a lot cheaper than fitting out your garage with a winch, it could also be as portable as your recovery vehicle.

That made me chuckle, not least because I had a vision of  firing a large heavy object down the drive attached to a rope which pulled the Mini back up the slope in the opposite direction. Haven't quite figured out how you manage to avoid the two objects colliding yet, but lets call this the Mr Bean variant solution.

I'm guessing these suggestions are best left to the off topic banter section and I will issue myself a warning point.  O_O

Have a look on the toolstation website for pull winch. Less than 30 notes and rated at 4000kg. Perfect!

Been there, bought that and took it straight back.  It did promise so much but is total garbage and wouldn't release under pressure.

Bring on more suggestions like that.....certainly more sensible than some.  Would love to see my stuck up neighbours face with an idea like that.

I haven't checked the maths for a 30 degree slope yet, so use with caution  O_O

a pulley in the garage and a rope ? mini to pulley back under mini tied to another car and pull it up ? cheap and cheerful but works

An issue with winching will be getting a line of sight or friction free pull. You'll either need the winch mounted high enough  in the garage for a straight cable to run to the car, or a secure roller on the apex where the garage floor meets the slope.

I'm liking M&P's idea, it'd automatically turn yer Mini round so you don't have to reverse down the drive - bonus!

or if you do it this way all you need is an anchor point / tree / etc
