Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has claimed he was thrown out of Argentina by state officials after being pelted with rocks.

He said in a tweet that "thousands" of locals rounded on the Top Gear team in apparent protest at a number plate which appeared to refer to the 1982 Falklands war.

A Porsche used in filming had a registration plate that read H982 FKL.

This might be distasteful, but If he deliberately chose that car because of its number plate I do find it quite funny

He didn't.

In fact, it was the producers that chose the cars apparently.

The plate was put on the car on purpose. If you do a vehicle enquiry on the plate it comes up as not found

The number plate was on the original vehicle for the last 20 or so years, whenever H was.?

BBC news said that upon a DVLA request/enquiry, they found that the numberplate in question was purchased/swapped in August of this year.

So the BBC seem to be telling porkies. To select a vehicle with H982 FKL (1982 FalKLands) and to say it was just coincidence is pushing the limits of probability....

The porsche was the recipient vehicle of a recently purchased numberplate. FKL & H1982 are just too close to call it coicidence....!

There is no way the BBC could ever admit to deliberately changing that plate to provoke a reaction from another country - it's basically inciting hatred. It wasn't that long ago it all came to the boil again and is something the Argentinians still feel angered about. I genuinely believe we have every right to defend them and should do again if required, but idiots like Clarkson do nothing to help the situation.

It was a fairly stupid move by all, and Clarkson himself said it was the scariest thing he has been involved in and claims someone could have died, and for what? A bit of a joke about the fact we won a war 30 years ago - well done you pillock. If you mess around with stuff like that, it will backfire. If it had been reversed, the British public would be kicking off as well. I haven't watched the last couple of seasons of Top Gear for one reason or another, but it's getting a bit repetitive and just seeing how far they can push things.

Didn't the BBC turn around recently and say one more thing from Clarkson and he would be axed from TG? Well they don't have a leg to stand on now if they were the ones responsible for this. It could potentially cause a political incident, or worse lead to innocent British people in Argentina being targeted by angry mobs of Argies seeking revenge.

I think we have more to worry about in the world than what someone's numberplate says.

That is completely missing the point - it's the fact it is rubbing the argies nose in it. They were controlled by an idiot who thought that it was a good idea to get les Malvinas back for his own ego and PR, but that doesn't mean that it isn't painful for average Argentinians who felt the country was humiliated and may have lost family or friends. As with a lot of wars, it was utterly pointless and no one gained from it apart from a few self serving politicians. For Clarkson to do such stupid things may seem 'funny' to some but if the BBC has to resort to petty jibes like this then I don't they are decent people to be in charge of the nations broadcasting. The man is an utter and complete idiot.

I think we have more to worry about in the world than what someone's numberplate says.

That's because you have little experience of living in a world where actions have consequences. War is not a bloody joke and something to be laughed about, whether its 30 years ago or 1 year ago. Political tension between the UK and Argentina is tense enough without crap like this, from an organisation like the BBC. When they are overseas filming, they are representing Britain and for them to deliberately change a number plate like that was ridiculous. I would not be surprised if there is some kind of enquiry. I would also not be surprised to find someone's head will roll as a result if there is one. I don't know who changed the plate, or what, but if they did, they need to be held to account. Inciting hatred is a serious offence.

If a foreign TV crew with links to Al Qaeda came here filming a show and drove around in cars making reference to the 7/7 bombings, or an Afghan TV crew had a plate referencing the Taliban, there would be an outrage. The crew and presenters should just be grateful they got out alive. Argentina and South America is not the same as Britain when it comes to stuff like that. There would have been many people in that group who would have not hesitated to keep going until someone died. They also don't have the same stiff upper lip sense of humour. It was tasteless and stupid. Also a big kick in the teeth to every British service person who died in that conflict.

Has it even been proven whether or not the plate was actually swapped? Coincidences do happen..

The other two plates also had numbers that were very close to the numbers of british and Argentinian deaths. Some coincidence..........

Very speculative. If youre going to change the plates you may as well go the whole hog.

I think it was the media that hyped it all up. You could link anything to almost anything but saying it's 'close to' or if you swap this for that.
Why don't people follow the simple rule of.... IF YOU DONT LIKE IT, DONT LOOK AT IT!
No one is forcing the argies to look at the number plates, they could of just looked the other way but no, they had to make a big scene and get all the tension hyped up again.
