right then not long had this car and it has been great but it has developed a problem, having gone through the forum for some obvious answers, this is my guess. The car is a sidewalk 1275 spi. At some point it has had a wiring bodge on the front grill area and there has been a few brown wires 'soldered' and i use the term very lightly together and also a 20 amp fuse holder fitted. Having sorted the soldering out, the original problem was the car just stopped and the 20 amp fuse had blown by the way a new one promptly blew! i think this is the main charging harness and a 20 amp spade fuse is just way to low a rating for this. I have read the thread on the factory fitted fused link being replaced and think that this is the culprit, what i dont want to do is replace this with a heavier fuse system and the damage something else. What sort of current would that be drawing when running after replacing the fuse it starts straight away and runs for a couple of seconds at tops suggesting a dead short but is it that the fuse is just way to small for the application. Hope some one has some advice.

 cheers les

I've had a few minis and unless the previous owners have all removed it, mine have never had any fuse on the main battery cable. First fuses are at the fuse box, then some smaller in line ones. I would imagine there is probably not a safe fuse big enough for the main battery cable, that starter motor must pull a hell of a load when cranking the engine..!

There are fuses specifically for this, look up 'Mega' fuses, they go up to 500a.
