My other half has a Bini and I have my mini as a weekend car. It's only a diesel but I like to turn the traction control off and drive the wheels off it. Can squeel round the B roads like a mini should! Lol

Only a diesel?  i've driven a number of Cooper Ds (PSA & BMW engined) and owned an SD, they're great cars, arguably better than the S depending on what you're using them for.

Hers is a One D though! So he's a fat Yaris, but don't tell him! :D haha

I have two Rover Mini Coopers (one carb and one injection) and an R56 Cooper S (I don't mind calling it a Bini). The R56 has never shown any problems but it hasn't done a high mileage. I think cars are such a big investment that they are only worth having if they are attractive and fun. The best alternative for me would be the Fiat 500. I once had a Pug 205 GTi 1.9 and that was the benchmark. The MINI matches it and more. I really like it.

The Minis have always had good storage capacity but the MINI is a proper hatchback and is easier to access.

The good thing is that on show days, especially wet ones, you can sneak in with a MINI without looking too much out of place. I got into the Brands Hatch Mini Festival free because it counted as a Mini.

I seem to get about 40mpg out of each of my three cars.

I own both currently, (trying to sell the BINI)

I loved my BINI as a 'normal' everyday car; quick, mostly reliable, comfy and very good on fuel (1.4D)

But should have been called the BMW 0.5 series..

We have an R53 S as well as the Mini Cabrio. Has been much more reliable than our original Bini Cooper. 9 years old in a couple of months and 48000 miles. Fuel consumption is the killer at 23 around town and 31 on a run. Stops the real Mini getting wrecked or too rotten though.

All second gen mini petrol engines are built by BMW. The prince engine was designed and developed by both PSA and BMW. BMW took this engine further and created the TVDi engine, this engine is used in both BMW and mini. I have owned quite a few bini's and my advise would be to go for the TVDi cooper s. Its a fantastic engine and returns good economy. I currently have a cooper which is really underpowered. The new 3 cylinder engines are ment to be really good but I haven't had chance to try one yet.

I have an R50 Cooper, R55 Cooper D Clubman and my mini 1000. I recently sold my Cooper spi because we simply weren't using it.

I wouldn't have a Suzuki Swift over this, at the same time I wouldn't swap this for a hatch either as they are both too small for our needs :-)

Nice spec with the chili pack, colour change LED mood lighting, cruise, half leather, 16" wheels instead of 15s, no roof rails, gloss black roof and mirror caps, privacy glass, chromeline interior and exterior packs, sports springs etc, low mileage ex mobility car (still under 30k now) 47 mpg on average since we bought it.

City E is still best :-)

Nice Clubby Pete, our R55 has the mood lighting and now that the dark nights are here it looks great. Our's is now hitting 25k but it was bought simply to clock up the miles  :D

My 2007 BINI Clubman S

Sold my '97 Mini Cooper and purchased my 2007 BINI Clubman S in April as a replacement daily driver. It's a nice car.

After 10 years of driving various classic Minis on a daily basis it was time to move on! It makes me appreciate my two classics.

My internet research showed there's lots of potential problems when buying a MINI.

Buy one, hate it?, Sell it! (That was my plan!)

We have both in our house. The classic lives a life of luxury while the MINIs are the dailies,

My mrs had an R53 ( S/charged S ) which was traded in for a 2009 R56 S. This was ok apart from death rattle which was done under warranty. The only other issue was a recall for the aux water pump wiring which was also done under warranty. This was traded in for a new 2012 R56 S coupe with the full aero kit. This has been a little bit problematic, waterpump, limp mode issues and odd tyre pressure warnings for no reason. This is now being changed as we are looking to get a new JCW Coupe.

I have an R56 one ( with Pepper ) and have had this from new in March 2010. This now has 90k on it and I have never had an issue with it. Just tyres and brakes ( standard running costs ) . Due to me 110 work commute, I am now looking to change into a facelift R56 Cooper D.....

I had an R50 MINI One D for two years until an expensive breakdown when I replaced it with a 16 year old ford focus. Still got my clubby estate :-)

I haven't touched the clubbby as nothing has went wrong with it yet. I've only owned the R50 for a couple of months and in that time I've replaced the brakes all round,  front wheel bearings and a front wheel sensor and given it a full service, which is not too bad considering its 10 years old. All I have left to do to it is fit a new reverse light switch and replace the N/S door actuator and then the car is 100% mechanically sound :-)
