I have worked out what I need to do. Bottom left, with the tensioner pulley, I use a 15mm spanner and pull the damn as hard as I can clockwise as if I were tightening the bolt. This loosens the tensioners and I then need to try and get it over the last pulley. The water pump seems the obvious choice as it is smooth with no lip. However, I am not strong enough to pull the spanner enough and get the belt in place at the same time. The car is in bits, I have a had stupid row with the gf and now she has gone to work and I won't see her until tomorrow night now.
Screw this stupid car.
As its a ford, if it had been me I would have set fire to it by now and be done with it. I am guessing this isn't an option though.
I found when I had to swap the alternator on my mum's focus that the auxiliary belt tensioner really needed to be pulled upwards rather than pushed forwards or backwards like on every other car I have worked on. When you put the spanner on it to move it put the spanner on as horizontal as you can and pull upwards. You will find it will come up and towards you in an arc. I found it easiest to hook it onto the air conditioning pump last of all.
