Hello.

My indicators have stoipper working on my 1980 mini super-deluxe.

The timer unit is an electornic version with the same 2 connections as the old bimetalic strip variety.

The unit cans till be heard "ticking" when the stalk is used in either direction, so I assume that the ticker and the stalk are OK.

I have removed the ticker and shorted the wires (which should result in the indicators remaining ON when the stalk is set to Leeft or Right) but nothing happens.

I have removed the hazard switch and connected the 2 wires that the hazard disconnects, and nothing happens.

The only thing I can think of is, do I have a short circuit? Can a short between the actual lights and switches etc cause this without blowing a fuse?

Where do the wires that go to the rear indicators conenct to the wires that go to the front indicators? If I could disconnect one light at a time it would make the diagnosis easier.

Any other things to try?

If the relay is clicking then it means the power is passing through it - so no issue with the stalks. Simply bridging the hazard switch wires wont help because the switch is more complicated than that.

Do the hazards work but the indicator stalk doesn't?

There are also two relays on the indicators - one on the bulkhead near the wiper motor and the other in the cabin next to the speedo. The one on the bulkhead is for the hazards and the one in the cabin is the indicators.

There is also an inline fuse on the bulkhead which supplies the hazard relay and interior light - does the interior light work? If not you may find that fuse has blown. It should be a glass type fuse in a white/beige colour twist lock holder.

Let us know your findings.

Does the relay still sound as strong? It doesn't mean its always ok, it could have broken inside. Worth trying another to eliminate the problem. As above though, do the hazards work?

Thanks everyone.

The stalk is OK as it starts the relay clicking.

I assume that the fuse is OK otherwise the relay wouldn't click.

I have tried bypassing the relay with a piece of wire, which when the stalk is set to L or R, the indicators should come on and not flash?

The interior light isn't working, which would also point to a fuse I suppose.

I have 2 relays (indicators an dhazards) but they are both together near the wiper motor.

The hazards don't work either.

Thanks!

Do the indicator lights on the dash work with the indicators? Or are they not working either?

The single dash light isn't working either.

I'll check all the earths.

Hopefully I'll get time this weekend to get this fixed so thanks for all the tips.

Where do the wires that go to the rear indicators conenct to the wires that go to the front indicators? If I could disconnect one light at a time it would make the diagnosis easier.

Thanks!

Centre instruments? Try removing the bulb holder from the green tell tale on the speedo.

Does the hazard switch itself still light up?

I had this problem on my rover mini 35 so I cut the bullet fuses out and wired in blade fuses with holders and that cured the problem. Hope this helps
